"Device" Slots and "Devices"

I think that there should be extra preformance tweaking devices for larger ships so that you canmore customize your ships proformance for certain tasks or just add a bit of firepower/battery energy/top speed to your craft.

Some of the add on devs. would be like cargo extenders: extra
storage

Turbo charger: 10% extra top speed

Ammo crate: more ammo storage

Emergency escape unit: allows player to escape to closeset station with a penalty of 20% damage (so no one uses it to run from a duel or something) mostly for traders caught in a bad bot hive or something.

energy amplifier: 10% extra firepower to energy weps

singularity charger: 30% more firepower to energy weps but with a 5% consuption jump, velocity and range loss.

Capacitors of differing types: faster charge and more energy cap for starters

Gravaty control unit: small % of mass reduced to make ship more menuverable.

Jamming unit: Enemy Radar dosent pick you up so quickly (more distance)

ECM unit: makes missles fired against you 5% less menuverable and therefore less acurate(your still far from invulnerble from them though)

Cloaking unit: Player can still be targeted but vanashes from plain sight, signal on radar is significantly increased as a result.

Balistics control chip: missles get a 5% manuverbility increase

Ok well thats all for now...i many post more ideas later. (:

those are cool ideas Panzer.

But one thing I want to add, capacitors work by gradually storing electricity (usually) and then releasing all the stored energy nearly instantaneously.
sort of like a charged beam, you charge it slowly then fire it all at once.
In-game, you could have engine capacitors, you instantly go to 200, but then you have to recharge the capacitor before you use it again, so useful for escaping traders, but not for combat.
I'm not sure how weapon capacitors might work, since there already is a weapon that uses a "capacitor".

lots of good ideas. most of them would have to be implimented very carefully to avoid massively unbalancing the game.

i'll dig up some old posts and link them here later.

oh and one other thing

Deflector: reduces damage by 5%

Reactive deflector:reduces ammo wepon damage by 20% but increases energy wepon damage 5%

Miror flux deflector: reverse that of the reaactive one

Would the cloaking unit take away the little thing that shows you where you should shoot? BTW, lots of people would use mirror flux for duels...

I guess this goes to show some proverb, but I'll be darned if I know which one.

Keep trying. You might come up with something we haven't already discussed ten times. More importantly, you might give the devs an idea about what toys they should implement first.

Phaserlight: The toys thread is only a page or two back. It keeps getting bumped. I've found some of my other long threads (armor, turrets, capital ships, semi-capital ships), but searching for my own threads is awfully difficult because I've got so darn many of them and the search function only lists the first 50 choices or so. If you really want to do me a favor and prove your seach engine kung fu is strong, see if you can't find the character progression thread (skills?) and the sensors thread (Eldrad was a big part of them) and bump them.

I think some sort of shield system would be cool.
As it stands now, once your hull is breached that's it. And without returning to a station you can do nothing about it.
Maybe something that runs off your battery, something that you can throw up at need and can take so many hits and recharges at a certain rate based on your battery. Maybe even have higher level ships with dedicated shield batteries or something. You could even have different types, like a type that just deflects beam weapons, and a type that actually deflects physical collisions, etc. Something that has reasonable limits but could actually be useful in a combat strategy (or an escape strategy). Like if you've got 19% hull integrity left and you're about to destroy a ship flying toward you at close range, you can survive the ensuing explosion by throwing up your shields right before you finish them. Something like that, something that gives you a chance in a desperate situation but by no means makes your survival certain.
