Universe shape reguarding player interaction
I just finished reading this long post http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/1/6246 , and I have an idea that might help with the problem of finding PvP.
A couple things that interested me were these comments:
Perhaps the defbots should "patrol" border systems less frequently than the capitols. So the Itani, and Serco border systems will have less protection with only guards in the station sectors to protect the peaceful traders. -Cam
Wormholes are the gates to a nation's system, out of all areas wormholes and capitols should be the most heavily guarded. -Phaserlight
I really would like to see a situation where you could fly into enemy territory and engage some other pilots, but it's true it doesn't make sense for these systems to not be heavily guarded. But that is because the Itani and Serco territories are mostly straight lines of systems with only a single border. Suppose instead, there were several systems in the Itani / Serco border, possibly with a few grey systems and other ways into eachother's territories. Neither side would have enough resources to heavily defend all the wormholes, and would instead concentrate on their core systems to be heavily protected (and safe for players not interested in PvP).
I can see a lot of possibilities with this layout to improve interaction between players. For one, people who want to just fight eachother (and gain combat experience) could do so easily without having to search out an opponent and fly all the way to grey-space. Second, cargo could be much more valuable at these edge stations which are not well protected from raiders, so traders could make large profits bringing cargo into those systems (with a much larger risk). Third, Because of this risk, it would be worth-while and common for escorts to be needed. There could be some really great conflicts between escorts, traders, pirates and pirate hunters. Finally, there would still be systems where it was safe for players to bot, trade and do whatever they like protected from PvP.
I can even think of other possibilities with trading with the opposite side, and what kinds of benefits/repercussions that might have to a player, but that's getting ahead of myself.
This is just my opinion, I'd like to hear what others have to say about it.
