I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but why is it when you destroy a ship, the cargo survives the explosion, yet their equipment does not? It is in my opinion that this game is too easy, making money is too easy, and its too easy to just get anther ship. I havent been playing long and I have 700k in the bank from trading. I'm not sure how much some of the higher level ships cost, but the most expensive one I've seen was 7k. I think they should add at leat a zero to the price of every ship, its just way too easy.
By ramping up the prices of ships, weapons, and power cells, and having them drop from when a player is killed, would add added risk to venturing out in dangerous areas, and make pirating more lucrative.

The economy is high right now, IMO that is because its a test and the devs want us to have lots of money. It's easier to test a bug if you arent worried about wasting all of your cash.
I'm not so fond of the idea of having equipment drop into space for salvage when you are destroyed. That would open up too many exploits to avoiding the license/reputation system.

I think it would be cool if there was a chance of some piece of equipment remaining after a ship is destroyed. Make equipment transportable like other cargo.
In response to the money system, it's not finalized yet. I think with lots more people trading it will change things a lot. And who knows what the newest patch will affect.

the problem with making equipment a "drop" is that if a player wants to give someone else gear that he/she couldnt normally get, it becomes possible. thats one of the things i like about vendetta. its not really possible to drastically improve a new character above what they could normally get.
That means that all players end up on a level playing field as far as character progresion goes. Everyone has pretty much the same options at any given point in their carrer path.

Spellcast:
Easy solution. Let them carry it in Cargo, but not be able to equip it until they have the right license levels.

I think losing an expensive ship and all its addons is a pretty substantial penalty in and of itself, but the idea is worthy of further discussion.
actually rascal, loosing a ship rapidly becomes almost meaningless when you know how the game works and what to do to make money. I could rebuy the most expensive ship availible to me 100 times before i would seriously notice the loss of money. (i usually keep about 5 million credits on me)
HOWEVER, If the missions make the availibility of ships more dependant on where you are than what your levels are, the time factor involved in getting back a rare ship becomes much more significant. Also if the developers reduce the economic rewards or increase the cost of the items/ships for the actual game then money could become an issue.
The developers have said in the past that they are more or less against a "death penalty" because dying is meant to be a part of the learning curve of the game. Combats are reasonably fast and it doesnt take a whole lot to destroy another ship, so a "hardcore" mode would be FAR to exploitable by griefers. all you have to do is make sure your group are the big dogs, and then you dont let anyone else level up.
