player ID tags
Dear Devs,
I have only been playing VO for about four days, not really enough time to access the more 'high-end' provisions of the game. I do wonder though, what kind of player ID tags there will be, and if those tags will include ships names? I have played many 'ship sims' both in space and in the oceans, and it has always bothered me that few of these games allow players to 'name' the ships they command, and even fewer include those names as part of the publically viewed tags.
On the high seas and in space, Captains are known by the name of the ships they command, rarely is it the otherway around. When ships sight each other, either by radar or telescope, it is the ships designation that sailors look to, not the name of the pilot.
Perhaps I am being picky, but just once I would like to sight a ship,(ocean or space) and read a tag the says "The Mighty Mo" rather than a name like 'Noobkiller' or somewhat.
Two cent from a noob...

I've had approximately the same thoughts regarding the naming of ships. Of course, nothing is stopping players from naming themselves "S.S. Minnow", "NCC1701E", HMS Reliant, or what-have-you. It would beat the heck out of some of the 13375p34k names I've been seeing of late.
I dunno. Seems to me I lose ships too often to grow attached enough to them to name them ;D
Seriously, though, that could be cool.
"ohno its teh UIT-MaverickHunter!!!11 every 1 run 4 it!!111"
XD

Rue, that's much more true of multi person ships. One person fighters generally aren't known by the ship's name. Additionally if you have a one man fighter you often change ships, which makes such identifications not very reasonable.
