afterburn and moving
Hi
I have noticed when you press the tab button on your keyboard your going into afterburn, only problem is that you got no control to move in any direction untill you let the tab button go again, I suggest (if possible) to be able to still move in any directions while in afterburn mode...
I never was a flightsim person so I do not really know if it is normal or not to go in 1 direction the moment you use afterburn

Your heading is locked in place when you turbo for gameplay reasons... otherwise it would be too hard to catch players (or so I hear).
Come to think of it, I wonder what it would be like to be able to turn while you turbo.

They could make afterburners and a turbo function. The afterburner would let you turn while moving, and would draw from a different energy source, and it would have a much more limited duration.
If you could turn while turboing, then there would be no point to not turbo. Da.
Exept that the afterburners would have a very limited duration
That wouldn't matter. Turning with afterburners would entirely change the nature of the game.
*Nods* it would mean having to entirely rebalance a lot of things.
But can anyone even remember what it was like to be able to turn with turbo? I'm not convinced it would be such a terrible thing, since:
A) the battery would drain
B) you can only turbo forward
C) there is a speed limit
In fact it may make dogfights feel a little more "flight sim"-ish, since you could use your maximum thrust to maneuver, but only in a forward direction.
-edit- okay did that make sense to anybody?

Nope, not a single iota of sense getting through here, though it may just be a lack of sleep. Or just me as usual.
As to why you can't turn with afterburners, have you considered what that sort of stress would do to your ship? The torque would deform your engine mountings at a minimum, and in a worst case it would cause your ship to shear apart as stress tolerances are exceeded, with the entire engine section ripping itself free. Then you'll need to call Intergalatic Impulse Incorperated (Triple I) for a tow to the nearest station, assuming the pilot compartment hasn't explosively decompressed.

yes, i remember turning with turbo.
the ability to change course at high speed makes intercepting your opponent all but impossible, and makes rocket attacks so much more lethal its not funny. (i mean the dumbfire rockets, being able to alter your course and maintain speed when firing them at full turbo makes it EXTREMELY hard to dodge)

Having never played when maneuvering in turbo was possible, I can't say how it would affect gameplay (it would definitely be different, but which way is better, I can't say). I suspect, however, it would be big fun to skid around in turbo. :)
