Shields, let me explain
Before you go "this game doesn't need shields" let me throw across an idea I have had.
The way I see shields being a possibility in this game, is if you take the Government Issued Plasma Cannon idea, but have a Government Issued Shield Generator, and have an extra slot on the ship configuration for shields.
There would have to be no graphic effects made, all the system would do is only allow a certain percentage of damage to leak through to the hull of the vessel, depending if you are using a free shield, or a heavy shield mkIII for example.
Say the government issued shield allowed 95% of the damage to get through, where a much more expensive module would only allow 70%
You see I dont think my idea for shields should change the gameplay too much, but on the other hand it would be another feature to enrich the game and make it that much more indepth, without being complicated (vendetta is a very approchable game and is easy to learn) but I cant see how this system would be unfair and doesn't seem to be something too difficult to implement.
Your thoughts?

The backstory does support the existance of a form of shield technology within the context of the game mythos and gives hope that shield technology may become part of the game sometime "Soon™".
We've been pining for a widget slot for a while...
I think right now the devs are probably focused on lag and mission content. Once the server is a bit more stable and there are more missions, hopefully they'll start adding broader gameplay/universe elements like giving us a widget slot or adding in some story specific models around the Serco-Itani border.

Adding any type of 'rechargable' shield technology would just serve to make chases even MORE impossible.
And though this set-up would work, dampening damage taken, the entire game would have to be re-balanced to fit it. Else, everyone just has stronger ships suddenly.

I would agree, eye-candy rechargable glowing shields that pulsate would probably be not the best way of implementing it.
Having the dampening version that only allows a certain amount of damage percentage through depending on which shield you have is a good workable alternative, so really its just making the hull tougher/weaker to blow up.

There actually already is a cool glowy-pulsating nimbus effect that would work really well for shields, it's just not used in the new universe :D

If shields would it make into the game, then i recommend two different shield types (player can only choose one):
Shields against energy weapons or Shields against particle weapon (i.e. Missiles/rockets, flechette 'popcorn' gun, gatling). So if someone has an shield against energy weapon, then the tachyon would only make 1/4 or 1/8 damage, but the (adv.) gatling gun would do 100%.
