Just an idea for a bit more role-playing in the game:

The ships right now are very limited in customization: IE, you can change the color.

I would like to see two more things:

1) Guild logos. I think that a guild should be abel to submit a small (Icon-sized? not much bigger) logo that will be painted onto any ships that belong to that guild. It would not only be a neat thing, but it could also add an element of role playing as people recount stories of ships carrying "a surreal image of a skull with a flaming dagger threading the eyeholes."

2) Named ships. I would love to name my ship. I don't want to fly in a Wraith, I want to fly in the "SS Katie" or the "SS Minow Johnson." Maybe this won't be on the outside of the ship, but it would be cool to target a ship and see the name of the ship as well as the player who's in it.

Finally, can black be added to the color list? I just don't feel like a pirate in a ship that's neon pink.

Everyone wants something like this in everygame. Ive seen this suggested many times in EVE. The are many problems associated with this including lag for loading each one you come in visual range of and potentially offensive material.

Well, may or may not be able to be dealt with, I don't know.

But as for offensive material, that's why I said guilds should have to "submit" logos, pending approval. Afterall, no one wants to see a giant penis scrawled accross their ship.

I second the call for black to be added to ships colors, as well as a brown that actually matches the browner looking ships. This would give us the option of effectivly having no stripe.

Id like to see the ability to colour both the primary and secondary colours on the ship, so you can have a red wraith with green trim. or a black valkrie with red trim, plus, guild icons are already in game, look on character info next time your in a station, if your in a guild it should show the guild info and icon.

Yeah, I'd also like the ability to colour the primary and secondary colours of a ship.

I also think having ship names would be great (although maybe it could just be shown on the players info (although it would be cool if it showed up on the ship model :)

Guild logo's on ships would be great, i know guild logo's already exist in the game, I think custom made ones that have to be approved would be cool, maybe only let guilds tat have a certain ammount of member have access to this feature? You could easily have rules laid down, such as image size and transparency colours :)

A darker tone closer to black would be great to.

I also would like the feature to be able to 'alter' my ships after they've been bought, a few times i picked the wrong colour, it seemed wierd I had to buy a new ship when I should of been able to get it resprayed. Of course you would have to pay for this service as well :-)

All of these thoughts have been brought up many times before.

Guild logos: are not really a priority, so don't hold your breath.
Ship names: for capitol ships manned by multiple players will most likely be added when the capitol ships are added, until then, I don't think every fighter ship needs a name.

Black paint: yeah i'd like it too, but the galactic safety consortium will not insure black ships. :P

Custom skinned ships may be added as rewards for certain missions in the future.

Don't forget special glow in the dark paint, reflecting paint, holographic paint, semi-transparent paint, bumpy rock-like paint, metallic paint, wood, textured paint, sponsored paint, paint with fluffy bunnies and/or flames, Mondriaan styled paint, and of course camouflaging paint.

And think about the window! You could also get different colours and styles for that. (to save your brain from further degeneration I'll leave the task of coming up with colours and fancy textures up to you)
