interactive cargo hold
It would be nice if we could identify what cargo is in the cargo containers before we pick it up - and - figure out what the hell is in our cargo bays - and jettison individual items.
its rather anoying having to remember tiny icons - and to be hones t- id ont feel like picture code memorising the entire contents of teh game.

That actually takes a lot less time than you might think :\
But I agree. If you hit "o" (as the default, anyway) your inventory opens and closes. How about one more step in that cycle where it expands a little more and tells you textually what you have in your cargo hold?

A selective jettison where you click on an icon and it jettisons 1 unit of that cargo would also be nice.
Just another vote for identifying cargo when selected, *before* you pick it up.
I like how the HUD only shows the icons of the cargo you have. However, if there is an ability to selecting individual cargo for jettison, then the full name could be displayed as each item is selected.

You *can* identify cargo before you pick it up. Target the cargo pod then hit "k"
Exactly: Popping up some hugeass window in front of you. Actually, why not just make the crates themselves identifiable? Triple them in size, put their icon on the outside, and give them a glow that varies by class.
How about just making dropped cargo look like the item? If aquaceous ore drops out, then have a blue glowing chunk. If it's carbon, then a brownish chunk. If it's just junk, then it's a slightly different brown chunk.

A simpler idea might be just to have the type of cargo in the name when you target it.
With 'target center', you can just look at each one, target it, then if you don't want it move on to the next one.
