Weapon systems and Drive systems the new concept

I have been a beta tester for quite some time now but most of my experience was with a much much younger vendetta. I recently came back to the game to find a bunch of new stuff which I considered a great step in a more complete game. With that out in the open I think that there are just a few tweaks that could be made to make this game all out “own.”
First off I must express that I love this game solely for its open and free like environment because hell that’s what space is… nothing. One more thing that I think would make this game shine above other is the implication of “systems.” I’m not talking star systems but systems on your very own ship. Systems that allow to narrow in on certain activities. The two systems that come to my mind are the drive system and the weapons system. On your ship there should modes in which you can place these systems, “primarily system” and “secondary system”. What I’m getting at is when you want to carry some cargo from one station to another you would engage the drive system as your primary system and since the primary system would get more attention then the secondary your ship would be able to travel faster and use less power when boosting. Now with the weapon system as your primary you would have the ability to control all the weapons on your ship plus the power output of your energy weapons but it would require alot more energy to boost. This would be a very neat addition because it would make combat a little more involved. For example if you come across a very fast bot and you have problems hitting it you might consider reducing the power on your weapons which would supply more power to your thrusters allowing you to move faster. On the other hand you could power your weapons to full and blow the bot to hell. If it turns out the bot is to powerful and you will lose the battle you can just engage the drive system and get your butt out of there as fast as you can. As you can see this would supply you with a few more options then just strafing in a circle until you die.
Please keep in mind that this is a very rough idea and that I’d be honored if you guy would help fine tune it into a workable idea. Also I do have some experience in programming but not on this level so I have no clue if this is even doable I just though it was a neat concept.

i like the idea. it's much like the energy control system in wing commander, where you could allocate more energy to your shields, your weapons or your afterburner (iirc, you could even change shield weighting to the bow or stern of the ship).
i think it would have to be put into a separate menu, like the nav screen. quickly changing between modes could be done by binds.
