Nag Nag Nag! Family/Group Discount

Sep 12, 2004 Sally Ride link
I know that there probably are not too many people in our situation, so I could understand if this isn't high on the priority list. I am hoping that there will be some kind of group or household discount for pay for play accounts. I mean, we would pay for play, but there is no way we could pay for three accounts. And only having one account and sharing might not work, depending on if there are enough screen names per account or whatever. Plus you can't play at the same time and all that. I'm not even sure that you'd be able to make it so that more than one person on one account could play at the same time.

My suggestion is that there be a discount for people who register multiple accounts, or add accounts on the same credit card. For example, if I ordered up three accounts at once and paid for them for a year, I would pay $6 per month, per account, instead of $10. Or whatever. That is my humble suggestion because I really do not want to give up playing.

or 10 for the first account, 6 for the second, 4 for the third, 3 for the fourth, 2 for the fifth, 2 for the sixth, ...

Actually it would be like: 3 for the price of 2 :D, and anyhting above 3 is anyway less likely to happen.

I hear ya. We'll see what we can do.

"or 10 for the first account, 6 for the second, 4 for the third, 3 for the fourth, 2 for the fifth, 2 for the sixth, ..."

What's going to stop someone from buying a bunch of accounts and reselling them?

Especially with a drop off that steep... I mean, if you buy 5, you'd be paying $25- an average of $5 each, or half the normal price. I know MMORPGs that cost $25/month for one account...

It makes business sense. By encouraging people to sign up as groups who might otherwise not pay at all you get more guaranteed income.
Then, when they move away from home they pay on a seperate account and you get even more money!
You have to addict them while they're young.

Perhaps, but a continuous dropoff like Renegade suggested isn't the way. Something more like "buy two, pay $8 for the second account" would be safer.

Or anymore than 1 account signed up to the same credit card would be $7 per account.

I like Sally's original suggestion best. Nobody feels like reading through a complicated pricing plan. It's a lot easier to just have "group discount" and say "X% off for every person in the group, limit group to Y people," rather than "$X for Y people, $Z for A people, $C for B people. . ."

But if it's $6/mo each for 3, that means that you're getting three for somewhat LESS than the price of two. I can see maybe $7 or $8/mo, because you still end up with 3 being a -little- bit more than two, but $6 is rather low...

in a household the average people that can play are 2- 3 people. So to maximize your profits you need to make it more focussed towards them. Its nothing mroe then a marketing stunt.

Chances are very slim that 4 ro 5 people will sign up, but these 4 - 5 people will tell their friends of such a cheap ass family game "although in reality not as cheap". But really in what familly do you have 2 parents and 3 children that all play the same game ? It is mostly 1 parent and 2 children, 2 parent and 1 child, 3 childs ... not to mention that they will all buy a boxed version of the game. Meaning more direct profit for guild, what is what they need at the moment...

Average lifetime of a MMORPG is 6 months, if it doesnt work or can enchant sufficient people then it will live on another 6month before it will die out. If it can enchant enough people then it will be a success for another 2 years (with continuant adition of some content).

Not to mention that selling accounts can be easilly stopped by adding an ip check. As being one familly having the same IP (in general). At the same time you can also state that if the ips do not match people will not be able to play the game on a familly groupaccount.

Or just change it to 8 , 6 , 4 , 4 , 4 ..., It was just an example nothing more. Or 8, 6, 5 , 5 , 5...

How about 10 dollars for first account, and 5 dollars extra a month to be able to play another character at the same time? I.e. 20 dollars a month for an account where 3 people can play at once.

that is a very good idea.
Sep 18, 2004 Celkan link
No it isn't. It allows for people to impersonate a family member. (I specifically have one brother-brother pair in mind at the moment.) One account per person.

Don't talk about JM like that.

don't name names :P

i agree with Celkan, though. it's rather open to abuse and i think far too many will try and do so.

I don't think you'll see many fake extra accounts if they cost money.

Out of curiosity, has there been any movement in this area? My wife would love to start playing too, at the same time as me, so we'd need two accounts.

Thx,

Hi, I haven't forgotten about this topic. Or, more specifically, about Sally and her family. I haven't yet broken down a pricing model for multiple accounts, or figured out exactly how that will work. (Getting billing working on single accounts has been a major accomplishment ;). We should be able to add this in pretty easily, it's just a matter of.. determining pricing, and impact. Perhaps we can get this going next week.
