In-system warp disruptor device??
I am curious about this question.
I don't know if this will kill the game or not but I know that ION storms will disrupt your in-system traveling, but what about a device, an expansive one that will actually do it, and it can only be used once..
Once you use the disruptor, it will take effect stopping any ship that crosses that sector when reaching another destination. They will last for like 1 minute or so..

That gizmo should use a LOT of power. Woudn't it stop your own ship too?
That would be interesting, but to affect the entire system? Maybe an expensive disruptor mine that affects ~1000m. That way someone trying to get away would either have to run or destroy the mine.
Along the same lines, maybe we could have a gun that zaps the jumping ability of a ship that gets hit by it. To be fair, make it eat a ton of battery and have a repeat time measured in seconds, so that you have to be a sharp-shooter to land a hit. Then the victim cannot activate the jump engines for 30 seconds or a minute or whatever.
On the defensive side, maybe an EMP mine that zeros the battery of anyone within range when it goes off. Someone being chased by pirates could drop it and hopefully get out of range in time, while the pirates would have to slow down to recharge.
I like the idea of being able to disrupt certain things like engines, sensors, etc. It should be difficult and require a high certification, but it would add depth to attacking/evading strategy.

No it will not effect the entire system..
Only one sector.
Only one sector.
There should be interdictor modules like in Star Wars for capital ships.
yeah, I meant sector. That's still a bit big in my opinion.
Edit: Unless it's a rare/expensive cap ship item - then I agree.

I wonder when captial ships are introduced if they will count as "large objects" and prevent other ships from warping within 3k of them. That would lead to some interesting tactics.
or make it so that ships friendly to the respective capship can jump within proximity and hostile can't. that way, you allow friends to depart under the cover of a capship's weapon batteries.
hmm, hey devs, slap a frigate into the game somewhere so we can see if it counts as a large object :) (j/k)
I would hope they count as large objects once they reach a certain size. I would say any ship larger than 50m in length would qualify as a large object.

/me dreams of an NPC capship in the release version, even one that was stationary or followed a preset course.
*sigh*
