What sector am I in?
How about displaying the current sector above the "Closest Large Object" display? Text is good enough for me.
It should have the color of the nation controling the system or be white for the systems that are not Itani/Serco/NT

Factions have colors. Damn Axia Tech Corp took my Purple.
Ok, color then.
What do you think about the idea?

I like the idea of a HUD location indicator. In a previous thread, I also suggested a player's home sector and mission destination be on the HUD. They could be labeled "L" "H" & "D" followed by the System number then the sector #.
(Ex:)
L 29 i6
H 13 o12
D 27 h6

I also like the idea of a sector indicator on the HUD, and a home station indicator on the map, but in my humble opinion a home station indicator has no place on a Heads Up Display. A player's home station isn't immediately important enough to warrant its own indicator on a HUD. It would be useful on a map, however.
Also, since the first time I saw it I felt that it would also be nice if the "Nearest Large Object" indicator was changed to exclude all that text. Sorry if I'm not being diplomatic, but that thing looks like a big red ugly zit at the bottom of the HUD. 75% of the space used for that indicator is used just to tell you what the indicator is! Perhaps it could be replaced with a less obtrusive sliding scale, or at least just a number. Players don't need indicators on the HUD identified in text, it just creates useless clutter. Identifying various HUD indicators is what the manual is for.
Perhaps if a sliding graph or bar was used for the NLO indicator, the location indicator could go just above it in small aqua text, using the three letter system designator (Sen. for the senega system, Pyr. for the pyronis system etc.) followed by the letter-number sector designator. Just an idea. If I can find a site to host a picture I'll try to whip something up in photoshop so you can see what I mean.
The main point is that a Heads Up Display should be used to bring pertinent information to the pilot's attention while being as uncluttered as possible. Taking up valuable HUD space with unchanging text like "Nearest Large Object", or rarely changing information like a pilot's home sector, defeats that purpose in my opinion.
