Two suggestions...
1) I think it would be useful to have What a sector Sells in the description on the map. If not the engines/weapons and everything, then just the widgets that are currently being sold there. This would be a traders best friend.
2) Some sort of Storm Detector. There is nothing more irritating than getting tossed into a bot sector in your little bus trying to make your away across the universe just to get a license upgrade, only to be destroyed and sent back all the way to a home station you stupidly set. I really don't mind piloting around the storms, but at least give us a chance to choose risking your ship or taking more time to get there.

1) I'd prefer to have a more general identirier on each station, (industrial products) (mining center) (commercial area) etc that would give a general idea of the type of goods sold. For instance a mining center would sell mainly ores, and would want to import tools, food, etc.
2) I'd be more interested in a "weather report" that you could purchase in a station. You would click on the button and it would bring up the nav map. then when you selected a sector it would give you a list of the storms in that sector at the present time. the farther away the sector is from where you are getting the report, the more expensive the information and the less accurate it would be.
