Storm Exit Suggestion
Right now I hate how you have to set your navigation point again after reaching the exit wormhole inside a storm. Why not make it so it auto reselects the sector you intended to go to before the stupid storm pushed you off course? If this idea is doubled up with the idea of using the activate key to use warp drive, getting out of a storm would only be a matter of going up to the wormhole and hitting the activate key to get back to where you originally wanted to go. It's all about convenience.
Yeah, I dont quite get why we get a WH jump node style marker, when you cant "hit enter to activate".....
I agree
It's a general navpoint beacon that was only previously used for the wormholes.
I suppose it should allow you to just fly to the navpoint and activate it to jump to the desired system. That makes more sense.

Meh, I'd rather a cool storm animation.
Another thing I don't get is that storms occur in sectors which already exist on the universe map. Let's say I wanted to travel from A1 to A10, but I got "stormed". If you check your map you'll find yourself somewhere between A1 and A10, perhaps A5 or A6. I may be wrong on this but let's just say you stormed into a sector with a player who just so happened to be in that same sector. Will that other player see the storm inside the sector too, or will you only be able to see the storm on your side?
If the storm is on both ends, okay fine that makes sense. But if it's only for one player and not the other... why? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. One player can leave the sector in any direction 3000m out, while the other player needs to reach the exit point. One player is stormed and the other isn't. I personally don't like this idea at all. It just doesn't make any sense from a gameplay perspective--how one players is artificially affected while the other isn't.
I think a better idea of a storm would be to have like a mobile blackhole that moves from sector to sector over time. If you happen to cross paths with one during warp drive, you get stopped. Visual hints should also be given to the player to indicate your proximity to the storm. But people who normally jump from system to system recklessly would face a greater risk because of the limited distance of viewable danger.
Ultimately, however, I'm not too impressed with the storm idea. I know it's in its early development phase and I know it won't be as frequent as it is now... but I just don't like being pushed off course without any reason at all. If you want to push players into some action, sectors can each consume a certain amount of battery power for warp drive usage, and then you can populate many of those empty sectors with bots to increase your chance of encountering danger while traveling.

It's my experience that any player in a sector with a storm is effected by the storm. There was one reported case where a storm entered a sector while the player was boosting to 3000m but it gave no indication it was there until the player couldn't warp until he logged out/in...then he was able to see the storm exit point. This will be fixed.
Agreed...If I am in a5 and you warp from a1 to a10 and get stormed to a5, we should both be in the storm. The Devs just need to fix it so I know a storm has arrived while I was doing whatever.

Exactly what I said in another thread. Thanks RelayeR.
storms should form over time, and then peak and slowly fade, affecting everyone. If a storm graphic comes into play, it starts out small, then slowly gets larger and the exit point moves farther away from the center of the sector. if you're outside of the storm then you dont have to use the nav point, but eventualy the storm will be huge enough that the easiest way to get out of it will be to nav point.
I like the storms, but it would be nice to have a system-wide "weather channel" or warning beacons or something that would warn players about storms so its not always a complete surprise.
However, I love the idea of electrical storms, please don't get rid of them. It adds a sense of unkown danger when traversing the universe.

i agree with arolte... we need to have all or none...
exit points in every sector... or remove the storm exit points(leave the storm)...
i do like the storms... but we need a tool to warn us of thier locations so we can jump around them... maybe one of the modules we can buy for our ships <wink>....
i like Urza's post here...
perhaps we can get another icon like (S) and Wh Icons in the nav menu...

"If the storm is on both ends, okay fine that makes sense. But if it's only for one player and not the other... why? [blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah]"
It is on both ends. Please calm down.
When a storm starts in the sector, and someone's already in it, they are given a beacon to fly to in order to leave the sector. The problem is that, as RelayeR said, it's hard to notice when this happens. There should be some kind of warning text. And if there was a graphical effect, that would also be a good cue.
I like the idea of lightning jumping between objects. That's doable.

Oh yeah, the Lmine does it! Cool!
Can you make it do damage (say, 5000) if it hits you? Make it work like an Lmine, so if you get too close to objects in a storm, you=teh d34d.
