it would be really good if you could purchase any ship u were eligible for, in ANY of your home stations, instead of the odd home station.
it took me nearly two hours of game play trying to find where i could buy the ship i wanted today!!

Why bother ever leaving your home sector then?

I disagree with this, though stations are in need of more clear marking as to their 'size' or importance.

I'm with Eldrad. If this was the case, you may as well go back to the 3.4 universe, there would be no difference between each station, or even system owned by each faction.

How about a sort-of catalog of all the known stations and what they sell? (i mean what you can buy)

Or show all the ships available, but some would say, "Only available in <system name>."

Displaying level info alongside the ships would be good.

Maybe the 'catalogue' is only for the faction whos station you are in? So look at a corvus catalogue will only show you Corvus ships and weapons, and where to buy them. That way you still have to hunt a little for the best ships and weapons, but not as much.

This sounds like it already exists and is just waiting for the next update.........?

I think having a brief bio/description of each station available in the nav window would be a good median solution. It would still keep the fun in exploring, but at the same time you would have a better idea of where to look for particular items.

A catalog would also be nice... would this be something available to buy, or would it automatically update based on the stations you've been to?

it'd be like the "select ship" menu.
let's say where it is available is represented as coordinates (system#, sector)
When you scroll through the catalog, you'd see something like
"this ship is currently in (30,I-4),(15, O-15)..."
