More NPC's!
Right now, we have two types of NPC's: pirates and NPCDEFs. I personally find that a little weird. I mean, where's the trader NPC's? Where's the Serco NPC's spying on Itani? Infiltrators shouldn't be Pirates, they should be foreigners! I mean, NPCs can change sectors. So why aren't there some that do?
Just my random nonsense thought of the day.

I actually kind of like it, it would add a bit mor realism to the supposed Serco/Itani war and even for those not involved in the fighting, could give good cannon fodder to.
The trading ones could be interesting as well, perhaps not all pirates would have to prey on the players if a few well filled NPC Centuars (or AI variant of the Centaur) were flying around the universe. It could be a way to prevent piracy while also allowing the 'pirate' to increase their exp. slightly

I've often found this game reminding me of the original Privateer. I keep expecting to get one of those "patrol" missions, where you have to hit 4-8 waypoints and kill a certain type of ship if encountered.
This would be great for the Itani/Serco border systems. The player gets a combat mission, which is to go to 6 contiguous sectors (say, I-4 to I-10). In half of those sectors there will be a few Serco NPC bots also on patrol. The player destroys them, completes the patrol and gets his mission bonus.
You could adapt it to PvP missions as well. Have an Itani player patrol a few sectors for fifteen minutes. While his mission is still active, Serco mission computers offer a patrol in the same sectors. Both players would have orders to KOS any enemy ships. Eventually they run into each other, they fight, and whoever wins completes the mission.

Remember when one of the In Progress updates had info about allowing NPCs to warp between sectors? Wish they were in right now. Like have a mission where you escort an NPC from point A to point B. If they get destroyed, no money and faction decrease. If they get to their destination, but barely, money and skill reward, but no faction increase. If they get to their destination with more than 50% hull, you get all rewards and money. Man that would be sooo cool.
They can change sectors (so says a1k0n I think), but they don't because the devs haven't put in any reason for them to yet. I know because we were talking about police bots that chased people and they said it was possible to chase across multiple sectors. So it's not a technical limitation.
