Freight/convoy missions
For when you need to move a *lot* of cargo:
Ship name: Oberon Mk I
Type: Light Freighter
Length: 40m
Mass: 30,000 kg
Cargo capacity: 50
Armor: 38,000
Weapon slots: 1L, 1S
Availability: trade level 8
The Oberon's purpose would be to haul a ton of cargo from one place to the next. It would be slow as a rock, but tough as one too, its main defense being its armor. This would be a medium-size ship; larger than the fighters we're flying now, but smaller than a cap ship. It would give the ragnarok bomber something to bomb.
The reason you would need to move a lot of cargo: freight missions. These would be identical to regular trade missions, but would include shipping vast amounts of cargo, in the neighborhood of 20-30. The payoff for completing one of these missions would be proportionately greater than smaller trade missions.
A freight mission could be tackled in 1 of 3 ways:
*Using a light freighter to haul the cargo in one trip.
*Making several trips with a smaller trade ship.
*Forming a group and then accepting the freight mission, then traveling together in one trip as a convoy.
If the mission was completed as a convoy, the experience payoff for each member would be roughly the same as if it were completed solo, (with a small reduction based on the size of the group), but the cash payoff would be evenly divided among the group.
There would be advantages to completing the mission solo or as a group: it would be safer to travel as a group, but the profit would be less. Traveling solo would be more dangerous and more time consuming unless one had access to the Oberon, but the profit would be greater. Either way the experience would be roughly the same.
This would give traders something fun to do as a group, and it would introduce a new ship class; the light freighter.

pretty neat.
Group trademissions... I've wanted those ever since groupcombat missions came out...
I'm gonna buy one of those ships, drag in into a nation's home sector and bomb the hell outta the defbots =D
good idea.

good idea.

Sounds fun. I agree with Rogue all the way. I prefer group trading than group combat; anyone who knows my character well will know that.
