Mk I, Mk II, Mk III... -> basic, improved, advanced...?
Here's a simple suggestion:
Instead of having ships and energy weapons with names like "phased blaster Mk III" or "Vulture Mk II", why not replace Mk I, Mk II, Mk III, etc. with more descriptive adjectives, such as:
Mk I -> basic
Mk II -> improved
Mk III -> advanced
Mk IV -> superior
Therefore "phased blaster Mk III" would become "advanced phased blaster" and the "vulture mk II" would become the "improved vulture." This is just a matter of taste, really, and I'm sure the devs have their reasons for the Mk 1-2-3 system, but what are your opinions on this or do you have any alternate suggestions?

the numbers help me keep track of which one is which, and which one is better. sometimes I get "superior" and "advanced" mixed up...
besides, they might even implement V, VI,VII and so on :D

The special non-special ships do not have a "Mk" designation, however. Instead they're given something like "Guardian", "XT", or the name of the faction/station included with the regular name. So watch out for that. These are often much better than their Mk IV counterparts.
Well the MkII gauss is actually weaker than the regular gauss it does 1100 damage and the regular gauss does 1200damage. :/
but it flies faster! and that makes a big difference... it is MUCH more energy efficient too. gauss takes an extra 10 energy for 100 damage... preposterous! and you have a faster firing rate (I think), besides the fact you can fire more... with a fast charge battery I can almost fire single gauss endlessly (which is cool, since gauss isn't a streaming weapon like the tachyon)

What he is saying is that tachyon can fire quickly like (--------------) without stoping unless low on energy gauss fires like (- - - - - - - - -you get the point) so basically he is saying gauss cant fire as fast as tachyons.
