A solution to the wanted secret sector

Jun 27, 2004 grunadulater link
I said this in another post, but I was entirely too unclear.

One more system will be added. No sun, no planets, no visible wormholes. This system will not be visible on the map. It will be in the middle of the map. A "Dead" system.

The only way to get to this system would be to find a hidden wormhole in another system. ---I strongly suggest there be some sort of marker, so you can remember where the damn wormholes are---. After you enter the hidden wormhole, you end up in a sector of the Dead system. In that sector, there will be almost no visibility, roids everywhere, and maybe some sort of lightning effect, like in Freelancer. The only way to get out is to:

A. Go back through the wormhole you came in through, which is not visible.
B. Follow the asteroids (Maybe we can have an ice roid or two to show us we're going the right way) until you reach a wormhole to another sector.

This system will act as a shortcut between long distances, only known to the best and the most daring, as it would be very easy to get lost or run into a roid in the Dead system.

There will be multiply sectors in the Dead system that act as shortcuts. "But wait," you say, "Won't that allow anyone to go anywhere?" I guess, but that'd mean navigating you're way not only OUT of the system you came into, but after warping to another sector, IN to the asteroid chain. Not to mention that most of the sectors in the Dead system will be nothing but rocky, dangerous voids.

"But wait," you say again, "What about the Testers only sector?" Well, we can have one sector, maybe F-4, of the dead system that has a little better visibility. In the middle is a ball of asteroids. Outside the ball will be many ships of the "Tester" faction, which will attack anyone that comes close, unless the person has +1000 with the Tester faction, which we will all have. Inside the rock ball, there will be a station in which either:

A. Only we can dock.
B. Lots of ships gaurding it.
C. Anyone can dock.

This station is our special place to buy black market items n stuff. One very special item is a map... maybe of all the secret wormholes in the Dead system.

What do y'all think?

a WHOLE system? wow... that may be a bit much don't ya think.
at most, I would envision a secret sector (or two) in each system, that linked to the other secret sectors of the other systems.
mega-shortcut

I like my hyperspace idea better :P

But still, having a shortcut would certainly be nice.

I'd rather see secret stations instead. Or more time spent on making the current sectors look as cool as the old s7. I don't think we need anymore empty sectors that are hidden.

=b

Well, there's no skill if ther shortcuts are just there. There needs to be some sort of danger.

You call that a shortcut?!?! You won't be able to see anything, but I like a challenge. Nice idea!

too easy to get across the system?
bah.
/me places a 5x5x5 rubiks cube at entrance of hidden shortcut. solve to successfully warp!

we're just talking about shortcuts; not necessarily adding more empty sectors. actually, I was thinking more along the lines of "secret warpholes" that would allow you to warp to a system that was far away. (not directly adjacent to you)

I'd just like to see secret stuff, Stations, systems, sectors, ships, bots, cargo, all that! Secret factions also would be nice, that give out some cool stuff, you'd have to make goody goody with em, but being nice to them would piss off all other factions. so, its kinda a choice to make.

Ooh puzzles! That'd be a nice mission.
