Special Ports?
I think for that extra bit of customization, each ship needs one "Special Port". A special port would hold ONE "Ability Item" Or something. These "Ability Items" Would boost your ability. For example...
Speed Booster: Makes you go 20% Faster
Bargain Booster: Makes you get 20% better sales on trade.
Stealth Booster: Enemies can't see you on radar until you're 1000m away, and you have to 5000m within their range to appear on sector radar.
These are stupid ones but you could make it much cooler. This would make the game alot more random, and as usual, alot more fun. More "Ability Items" would be unlocked as you get more licences in certain areas. Thanks for your time again!

Thats a good concept but in reality it would make people get unfair advantages over others, eventhough having a different weapon and better weapon gives a more advantage, making it random makes it difficult and for alot of noobs that are going to play on the final release, they want to get use to the game and not get bombarded with random stuff, its a good start but it need some building off to do.
Agreed. I vote no. But take a look at the "Specials" thread for something that might cover your idea in a better way.
No reason to shelf this idea out of hand. Perhaps you might get this special item for meritorious service to your nation or for completing a particulary arduous trading mission. A small stat boost should not unbalance the game unduly though I would think that it should be no more than 5% at the most.
