mining and smuggling
Also smuggling would be great and a skill! So you get some hard drugs from a outlaw zone, where everything is allowed and you get it home to itany prime, where they are forbidden, so you get a proce, when selling on black market, but ship could be checked when docking or stopped by police in space. And with high skill police won't find your goods so quickly. (could be explained like this: you hide it better then, look more natural in talks, etc.). Of course no smuggling licenses make sense, only skills. Maybe just memberships of smuggling groups that bring you benefits (i.e.: dock on secret smuggler stations, etc.)
And for mining I would love to have a laser for shooting asteroids that split off smaller chunks then, which can be collected and sold at the station. At first you could make a test to get a very basic mining license (just for a weak mining laser and a collector)
Then a higher minig skill makes better splitt offs and a collection of more valuable minerals. And with some good mining experience, you can be allowed to make mining class 2 test to be able to buy a mining equipment and ships for a little more fruitful mining operations). So very much later you could make a license for building a mining empire where you can hire players and NPC's for mining and set mining machines (bots) on asteroids to get the stuff back later. Of course mining machines could be hijacked. So you need a hidden place and some security standards (pricy)
Are there plans for that? Will one of this features come in the next major release?
PS: The collector could also be a needed feature to collect cargo at all. Maybe just mining collectors takes heavier stuff and a high grade ones could extract the valuable stuff out of the chunks for leass cargo usage (and for that more profit). So there could be a big palette of different collectors.

We don't know, but we haven't heard the devs mention it. They have several other more basic features that they need to implement first before they can turn thier attention to the goodies.

Mining sounds alot like E&B. You "prospect" diamonds and such until the roid is no more. Sometimes if you come accross an untampered roid, you could mine it 2-5 times. Anyways, good idea.
