Teaching n00bs how to shoot things: good.
Making someone chase bots around the sector for 12+ hours just so they can get the lowest possible non-free engine, battery and weapons: not so good.
For everything else, there's Mastercard.
Seriously, the botting thing gets old FAST. My suggestion is, less botting! Perhaps as an OPTION, rather than spinstrafing for decades to pop a bot that can't even hit a wraith with a free/free/free setup, players have the option of going against a single, stronger opponent to raise levels.
Just a thought.

Take a trip into sector 11, or better yet, sector 17 and 18, and you'll have plenty of bots coming at you that give pretty good experience.
Since the Mission bot specified DRONE bots for license points and won't count transports and recons, I thought that meant ONLY Drone bots counted. Am I wrong?
Thank you for setting me straight on the matter. I'm sure my Atlas will fair well in Sector 11.

There isn't a combat mission in sector 11 station. I'm specifically alking about VIABLE alternatives to DAYS of combat missions.

Only drone bots count for the mission. You can still bout outside the mission for EXP. You just won't get any cash bonus. But the experience is about the same regardless.
Magus, the problem isnt Cash Bonus, I dont think anyone relies on them, but bot missions FREQUENTLY award bonuses in category
Combat: +300
Light Weapons: +150
Heavy Weapons: +150
Cash Reward: 1500
Congradulations, you killed 5 bots, kill 5 more for a bonus
Pilots often rely on those Category bonuses to increase level quickly. We do not get those if we randomly go out an wack 5 bots without the mission, and even then, if we attack the wrong class of bot (say, "Kill Drone IIs") and I wack a Drone I, Recon, Guardian, etc etc but not a Drone II, it doesnt count on my bonus and instead I get a slight reprimand when the Mission Computer tells me "You are supposed to kill Drone II bots"
Stuff like that. The problem is, those bots are runners and also they dont put up a real fight. I've engaged 3 Drone II's at once in a Light/Light Wraith with 2x Phased Blasters and suffered 5% damage total. 3x kills, 95% health at the end...really boring.

We've all brought this up before...
What about an arena? You vs. bots of increasing number/difficulty. A 0.0.0.0 player would go into the arena and fight increasing swarms of drone I bots that are set to attack, not just run. A x.3.3.3 player would fight hordes of drone IIs and recons. After you reach x/.4.4.4 (the max before adv combat missions, right?), you then have to leave the arena and go out and learn in the REAL (virtual) world. You get no money or cargo in the arena, but you don't have to pay for your ships and weapons either.
After graduating the arena you get dumped out of the station in a bus and no money. Now, your mission is to attack transports (in sectors 4/6/12) to earn enough money to PAY FOR the goodies you earned access to in the arena. Transport I's are like the current transports and are escorted but 4 drone I's and one recon I (a weaker version of the alien "wing squadrons" that guarded the frigate. If you kill all five wing bots and the transport, you get five widgets of low to middle value and one "goodie".
Automatically, if you upgrade to a better ship or weapons (engine/batt doesn't count?) your new mission is to kill Transport II ships, guarded by Drone IIs and a Recon II. rewards are 5 cheap widgets and three goodies (the capacity of the atlas).
Sounds good to me, anyway.

heh heh, /me signs his ticket to sector clue over to xochiluvr
I *know* there are no combat missions in sector 11, but assault bots give +30 to light and heavy, sentry bots give +20. Neither of these are very difficult to kill in a warthog or a vulture, and they don't run away from you. Which would you rather do, chase drone II bots all day or blow stuff up?
...and now that we have group combat missions, you *can* complete missions in any sector you like.

two words for you...sector eighteen
go there for XP, especially with a group combat mission of a decent level, always try to be the one that bots 18. your per-bot XP gain is often bigger than the mission bonus.
of course, you have to get _at least_ an efficient engine before you can take them on...

I think the problem is that it takes days to even get a ship in which you can survive sector 11, not to mention sector 18.
If nothing else, there should be a larger variety of combat missions at low levels, beyond bot-bot-bot.

this has been brought up before, and people what do you think, the devs will send the game out as is? they are not stupid, they are simply doing this to test the mission out and will be adding more missions and please read this thread http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard?thread=4500&page=2 it will back up what i said and has many good suggestions for the FINAL game
besides that as it says in that thread there will be a time wwhere missions of different people will overlap and person x will have to kill trader y and person z will be assined to protect y and etc.
but yes the bots running is annoying but usually they are on a run and if you just follow when they turn, u shoot, they then react and attack, or you follow and after 1000m they "realize" you are following and attack. yes right now the bots are stupid. but give the devs some time and suggestions are not taboo either this being a test and all
