Set engine speed
Since only in physics mode you get a "boost" when exiting a wormhole or station, I suggest adding something like "set speed 30".
That parameter would be your default speed after exiting the dock or a wormhole.
It can help against station and wormhole campers, since it's harder to hit a moving target.
Of course, it will be a good idea to limit that speed to, lets say, 75% of the engine's speed (turbo not included).

actually blitz all ships get a boost when exiting a wormhole / station. the only difference is that in arcade mode, since it uses a throttle and allways attemtps to maintain the set speed, it stops you. (i'm not sure why it resets throttle to zero with keyboard/mouse play, but it does)
Incidentally if you have a joystick and use the z axis as a throttle, it will set your speed to the throttle setting when you exit.

A bug...?
I'd still love a feature to set that speed since sometimes I want that boost and sometimes not.

alias spnspd "set doKeyRamp 4; +Accelerate; wait 1 '+Accelerate'; set doKeyRamp 1"
bind "key" spnspd
*spnspd stands for Spawn Speed
I think this should do it. Oughta give you half throttle.

Related to this, I would like to sometimes boost at less than maximum speed, and then have it appropriately reduce my energy consumption.
Say I wanted to boost at 160 m/s in a heavy engine. The boost goes +135 m/s to a possible 200 m/s. I would be doing four fifths of my potential speed, so then maybe my battery could drain at 80% instead of 100%.

When we get large sectors it would be nice to set your ship to "cruise" where it keeps your battery at half but keeps you at a constant speed of about 70-80% your max turbo speed. Otherwise trading would get really boring.
Hell, it's really boring already.

that's what the eff/fast is for. I use that when I'm trading, usually that or med/fast when I'm botting.
ahh celkan, but some of us trade in a prommy. I'd love to be able to set a cruising speed for trading and then kick it into high gear if attacked.
Even in a med/fast you have to sit there and pay attention. The battery dies eventually and during a long trip you have to stop, charge, and fire the engines again. When the sectors get big it'll get obnoxious. I hope they add some sort of auto-pilot feature like this in their "navigation system."
I'm not too thrilled about the current method of boosting and I hope there'll be some revision to it. A while back I made a proposal that would allow the player to hold the boost key down without having to stop and recharge or tap the boost key every single time. It's sort of like a powered down mode for every engine. Think of it as a reserve power supply that is continuously recharged via solar panels. Not as fast as full turbo, but faster than cruising speed. The battery stays drained until the boost key is released. So you can't chase someone down forever with energy weapons. Anyway, check it out...
