Linux AMD64 binaries
Any chance of releasing some Linux AMD64 binaries?
Unlikely. Are you able to run 32bit binaries on the AMD64 chip? I thought the Athlon64 can do 32bit fine.
Wow. That'd be some cool beans. But Ray, you have to think of the future! What will become of Vendetta when everybody has 64bit processors, and the people are clamoring for a 64bit binary?

Just change 1 on or 2 bytes in the program and say it's 64 bits now :P It's not like you could easily find any difference between a 64 bit and 32 bit version.
raybondo: It's possible to run 32 bit apps, but you have to compile 32 bit versions of all the libraries they use. Keeping two sets of libs is a pain and a waste of space...
It'll probably take a while to make Vendetta 64-bit clean, and it's impossible right now since we don't have any AMD64s.
In the future, we plan to have various 'upgrade packs', like binaries compiled for particular platforms, or higher resolution textures for the next generation video cards, as part of the updater. But that's far less important to us right now than getting the game done.

Perhaps, but think of it from a marketing standpoint...wouldnt it be quite impressive if your game said, "Optimized for Athlon64" on the box? I'll tell you what, if I had an a64, I'd have cash...and I'd also buy just about anything claiming to have support/optimizations for said processor....
Which is why I'm going to buy UT2004...
Not to mention on this Athlon 64 system I just built I can't play Vendetta (its possible but I'm not going to install 32 bit versions of all my libraries), so I essentially won't be playing it anymore...

Obviously, guys, all you people who want support for 64 bit processors should donate some money! That way Guild has a better chance of being able to afford a 64 bit processor in time to optimize it before the game is released in final.

I would also like to see 64-bit version for Athlon 64. It would be no problem for me to help it test. I also think that if you contact AMD and tell them that you need help porting it they could gladly help. I have read that in some cases they even make one of their people work on this. Or at least they would give you fast access to their 64-bit machines which can then be used to develop and test. If the application is designed properly then it doesn't even require any code changes. Just recompile with AMD64 as target in 64-bits and all should work.
bump for goodness
Pretty useless bump, if you ask me. The situation isn't going to magically change any time soon. Not even the Mighty id have decided to spend the effort to make native 64 bit binaries for Doom3.
So it's beyond the forseeable future for an overworked, underpaid, understaffed dev team.

Would you rather have more interesting missions, ships, weapons, and features, or enable the tiny fraction of the market running Linux 64 to play the game?
/me agrees
besides, whats stopping you dumping a 32bit install on an old 10gb drive or something?
I on the other hand have it the other way round, main install is 32bit, and a smaller 64bit install for playing around in when i fancy.
