auxillary directional boost addons
i played a bit of armored core, and one thing that's fascinating about them is loadouts that change completely how your core moves, and not just leg parts, but small auxillary parts as well. so i was thinking, what if there was an instantaneous burst thrust function or keybind in this game, and then i thought screw that why not an addon for ships? i also searched a bit for any posts on this topic, found one from 2006 but there didn't seem to be any controversy on it, just that it asked for unconditional addition of it to all ships, so this could be a good caveat. https://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/14797?page=1 for anyone interested.
so there could be two ways this could go:
1. an addon that goes on a weapon slot (could have variations for small/large)
Auxilliary Omni-Directional Booster Module (small slot)
Mass: 1000? 1200kg? should be big enough to make you think twice.
Instantaneous (or near instantaneous) Thrust: 10000 or something, enough to jink a 4000-5000kg fighter maybe 50-75m in one direction?
Delay: 12-15 seconds, maybe even 20s, we want this to be a trick you can pull a few times in a fight, not something to turn your ship into a coke-fueled jitterbug.
Energy Cost: since you're sacrificing a weapon to do this, maybe 50-80 en to keep it low?
Grid Usage: 8-12, so you can't put it on something and still have lots of weapons maybe 12 is more reasonable so ppl can still do ravens if they want or maybe 8 so hornets can use it as well.
Licenses: 8/6/5/-/- nation space | 6/4/4/-/- in grey or something idk honestly
2. a special kind of battery that is very, VERY limited in exchange for this function
Auxillary Miniature Gravitational Displacement Power Cell
could have a bit of lore like being really experimental power cells that have a miniature gravitational drive built-in to it that allows burst movement, could even be a new manufacturing item.
Mass: maybe anywhere between 800-1500kg, this should be really heavy for a power cell for the function it gives, could be even more since you don't have to sacrifice a weapon slot for this version.
Instantaneous thrust: same as weapon slot version, 10000 or however much is enough to jink a small 4000-5000kg ship 50-75 or so meters in one direction.
Delay: 15-20 seconds, or longer since you don't sacrifice a weapon slot for this, again this should be an all or nothing gambit the enemy can count out for a while once you do it, not something that turns your ship into a jittering mess.
Energy Supply: 220-250, could be lower. or higher honestly, since it regens so slooooow.
Energy Recovery: 25-40, maybe 30 is more sane?
Boost EN cost: 80-100, basically half your energy, you would really need to commit to it and make it count.
Grid Supply: maybe 16 so hornets can use it too with a full weapon complement, but not superlights or such, since that might be pretty annoying.
Licenses (for manu): 5/4/4/3/- (idk about this honestly, could be higher to match the addon version but caps can be made at license 5 so... y'know?)
obviously this would make dogfighters happy with a new toy, but with a large port variant, even transports might be able to equip one along with a mine to help with survival against pursuit. if the power cell version goes through that might not be so true though. well if both goes through that would be awesome either way :D
