Suggestion: Curved / Multi-Plane VR UI

For VR, would it be possible to curve the UI plane around the player, or allow additional UI planes to be positioned to the player's left and right and angled inward?

This could be especially useful if GUI tabs were movable windows, and for plugins that add their own windows. Instead of stacking everything onto one flat plane in front of you, different information could be arranged around you in a more natural cockpit-style layout.

Perhaps this could be accomplished by adding a transform/rotation offset to the existing UI plane, or allowing additional planes to be created with their own offsets.

I think it would be a great use of the VR cockpit real estate.

I agree, that would be nice to have, we always wanted something like that. However, there is a non-trivial lift of development associated with implementing it.

That said, we're actually right in the middle of trying to rework the fundamental way our engine handles interfaces, and how interfaces are constructed.

So, if there's some way I can try and bake in VR as a test-case, I'll see what I can do. But, I can't promise anything in the short term.

The biggest immediate goal for the UI development is just to redo our current.. uhh.. "chaotic and not very attractive" menu system, which really needs to be completely re-designed.

The HUD (Heads Up Display) is not the main priority. But, still, there is some bearing there and we'll take a look.

We also have to try and retain backwards compatibility with the "plugin" content that users have built up over the years, which modifies the existing HUD.
