Station Capture and Faction Control

Jun 18, 2026 Player_1 link
It might be interesting if stations could be captured and controlled by opposing factions through large-scale conflicts.

Stations can change ownership after battles (if it is damaged enough)
NPC defenses (e.g. turrets on the station, defense ships) and cooldowns would prevent constant flipping
Captures would require meaningful player participation
If all the stations were controlled by one faction, that solar system would become controlled by that faction
If it was conflicted, it would be grayspace

This would make the universe feel less static and give players real influence over the map over time.

Instead of everything staying permanently fixed, faction borders and control would shift based on player actions, creating ongoing conflicts and long-term goals, which I think would make the game more interesting and the players feel like they are a part of something.

There are three conquerable stations, which are manufacturing facilities hidden in greyspace. You will be able to see manufacturable items at them in your mission log once you reach combat 5. Since you haven't mentioned them, I'm not sure if you've ever attempted to take one or even know about them.

so... go give that a try?

I know, but what I am saying is you make every or almost every station conquerable so that the actual faction borders could change.

Brief response..

- We are not going to do that for the big-three main factions in the "core galaxy". We need statically defined space to allow for tutorials and early-game missions to work and on-board new players into the game in a reasonably dependable way.

- We have long-standing plans of doing that kind of thing outside of major-nation space. The current three conquerable stations were only intended as a testbed to get an idea of how this would work. The goal becomes far more relevant with an expanded galaxy that is driven largely by player ownership of territory.
