Suggestion for a Player Killboard Feature
To the Guild Software Development Team,
I'm a new player to Vendetta Online, but I'm coming from a long history in other sandbox MMOs, most notably Eve Online and Albion Online. I was immediately drawn to VO's unique twitch based combat and open world PvP, which feels very similar in spirit to the player driven conflicts I'm used to. It’s exactly this kind of sandbox experience that has me so excited about playing and progressing in the game.
My background in Eve Online has shown me firsthand how a player killboard can become a central, defining feature of a game's community. In that environment, a public record of player versus player engagements does more than just track stats, it:
Creates Reputation: It allows pilots and corporations to earn and display prestige, building a reputation as a dangerous opponent or a respected ally.
Drives Narratives: Killboards are a public record of conflicts and rivalries, giving players stories to talk about and analyze long after the fight is over.
Enhances Strategy: They provide invaluable intelligence, allowing players to track their enemies, anticipate their movements, and plan their next strategic move.
Fosters Community: A killboard is a community hub, giving players a reason to visit forums, Discord, and external sites to celebrate big wins and learn from their losses.
Given Vendetta Online's core focus on player driven combat and a living universe, I believe a killboard would be a fantastic addition to the game. It would provide a public record of the intense player versus player action and amplify the significance of every engagement, big or small.
I understand that a feature like this might be a big undertaking for the development team, which leads me to my main question: Are there existing APIs or a means to collect the necessary data for a killboard?
If the kill data such as pilot names, ship types, and timestamps of kills could be made available to the community, many players would likely be eager to step up and create a community run killboard. This would provide immense value to the player base with (hopefully) minimal investment on your part.
Of course, if this is a feature you might consider developing in house, that would be fantastic. But simply having the ability to allow the community to develop it by providing the proper APIs would be a huge step forward and would greatly enrich the player experience.
Thank you for your time and for creating such a compelling and unique game.
Respectfully,
Veetus

There's community run killboards but they're typically guild specific large guilds added kill tracking functions to their respective plugin suites, instead of a killboard I'm more inclined to seeing instanced dueling that would essentially force a "fair fight".
I take a big issue with using external means to enhance strategy, it encourages running bots ingame as bait/spotters; that said i take no issue with the idea of a general scoreboard/killboard as it would inherently increase competitive behavior that said it could also go the other way and encourage ridicule/mobbing really i'm neutral on the whole, if you're looking for a slightly more competitive vo experience i suggest joining opposed player faction; arguably the hardest gameplay in the game is playing against pirates they make for elusive targets and defending newbs that don't know what they're doing is no easy task!
A killboard exclusively for capship pilots makes a bit more sense to me otherwise it'll probably be futher weaponized against newbs making them that much more reticent towards pewpew.
To finish up yes the game's api would allow for a killboard however the reporting and management of which would be entirely in your hands (players would have to install a plugin on their end for it to function) the api documentation is no longer public that said if you ask the right folks you'll probably be able to get some assistance.

isn't that what the duel ladder is for?
In a sense yeah, zkill is essentially a live feed of the game as it's being played (the explosions anyway) and it also records fits, total damage done; other pilots involved in the fight (unless they're in logistic roles and manage to gtfo when shit hits the fan)
zkill is in essence the scoreboard for the folks in eve who're into pewpew.
