Perfecting the FA/mode
I searched the argument and already found this thread: https://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/18688
I know new players will find confortable this type of flying, but for the ones who are confident with the game, i believe it's correct to remove the momentum forward.
The purpose is very natural: when you need a free flying doing all maneuvers, you should continuosly hold the forward/backward button because it works differently than other directions.
It's still possible, maybe, but it's not perfect.
EDIT: Now i probably understood the point of the developers, and i believe it's
mathematically right the actual system. So, because i believe in realism, i'm not sure if i agree with this possibility i've already suggested. Maybe not more.

How will your suggestion improve the game?

TL;DR: as I understand it this dude wants the FA forward velocity setpoint to remain at 0 for forward movement which would be jarring as hell for everyone out there that flies exclusively with FA on.
The suggestion you cospley0 linked was implemented a few years ago (maybe even more than a decade ago at this rate) you can move backwards with FA on just as well these days the suggestion you linked was posted when FA prevented moving backwards, at least on pc/mac/linux it doesn't behave the same way as going forward as the velocity setpoint stays set to zero releasing the backwards key will bring your ship back to 0 if you want to continuously move backwards just keep holding the key down...
It took me awhile to decypher what you're suggesting; If I read your post correctly you want FA going forward to behave like FA does backwards/lateral movement and my answer to that is hell no because sometimes I just want to get around the station flying one handed with my mouse on the keyboard.
It wouldn't be a bad addition and this would have some pretty interesting implications in pvp I wouldn't mind seeing it as a toggle in the controls. That said it's a pretty drastic change to something that's more or less baked in to everyone's muscle memory at this point and would probably confuse/frustrate the hell out of everyone that flies with FA on; hence why this shouldn't be implemented as a default but a toggle in the control options.
PS: whistler just citing rules like being thorough isn't going to help because in this case they should've been specific more than anything, more incomprehensible text isn't going to help anyone.
Not to mention the gameplay implications of this seemingly small changes are actually pretty fucking massive and if you want I could probably write you a ten page essay about the implications this would have were it made the default control scheme on pc/mac/linux... nobody wants that :P
PPS: pretty please with sugar on top can you lift the 15m edit rule as far as I know everyone's been on good behavior on the board and it's a massive pain in my ass!
PPPS: since my 15m isn't up yet I'm gonna take this opportunity to put this wee thread here back on your radar: https://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/38886 that said I oughta get a hold of drazed/phaserlight for that shit but I digress.
PPPPS: be sure to check the PCC board once in awhile :P

There is no need to change the flight mode, but it is possible to implement a function: example activate/deactivate the momentum forward. (Yes i've suggested this functionality: when you leave the button of "thrust forward", the thrust power come back to the value 0).
The purpose is to maintain a more perfect way to command the FA in pve / pvp by using the keyboard.
But i don't know if it's in tune with the logic of the game. Because i can suppose to use the turbo thrust in all directions and that have not to be theorized, for me.

I can explain it better.
In this game the thrust power doesn't equate to the brake function. For example: if i have a thrust value on the direction forward, and i push the "thrust backward", it takes longer for the forward thrust value to return to 0, unlike what happens when flying in other directions. For this reason, the FA/mode should work in the actually way and it doesn't need any refinement.
So now i withdraw my suggestion. I agree with the actual flying, that let us more possibilities to switch the flight modes.
