Apply target-based trajectory to missile turrets
When missile turrets are fired either by ActivateTurrets or via weapon grouping, they fire directly perpendicular to the ship. This causes the missiles to have to use up their lifespan to get aligned on the correct trajectory to head towards the target. When a turret is piloted, you can aim directly towards the target and the missiles will fly directly towards the target.
Suggestion: Apply targeting trajectory to the missiles when fired via the weapon grouping so that the missiles fire directly towards the target, whether it be in front or otherwise. If the target is not directly within the aiming angle, choose the closest angle to reduce the distance required. AT can remain as is, as it can be a limitation of the "AI" firing the missiles.

Turrets do not turn into regular addon ports just because they've been added to a weapon group. I'm all for this suggestion, but not applying the change to +ActivateTurrets (What I assume you mean by AT) is kinda silly, unless i'm missing something that ought to be obvious? Its still being used the same way, we just don't have to keep it's activation on a seperate key now.

My thought process is that AT is the ship's AI firing, and thus would have lesser capabilities than us firing the turrets manually. Doesn't necessarily have to be that way, but feels like a logical shortcoming.

I removed a post and a reference to it from this thread because it violated:

Anything that makes firecracker/gemspamming battlemoths/atlases more viable gets an instant fuckin' hell no from me.
+1 to OP's idea.
When AT is enabled the energy turrets aim at target. Why would missle turrets behave any differently? It not like you would lock the launchers in one position and fire them blindly.
IMO its kinda rediculous that your missles have such a high chance to miss because they had to travel so far in a different direction that half of them become useless. This is especially a factor when missles are the only decent defense against bots in a cappie mining rig due to the rediculous grid on a QMB (and the bots dodge energy turrets all day).

Released today..
VO 1.8.687 includes:
- Unoccupied capship homing missile turrets now fire in a best-angle at the target if it is not in front of the turret.
