Piracy Reduction Measures

Nov 26, 2023 CuteLittleAvali link
In light of recent events, and knowledge that has come to my table, I have come to the conclusion that PvP I'd an integral part of VO. However, with this understanding, I also realize that some issues with safety within nation space can be fixed with some simple tweaks to the way certain things work. These are my (probably not too hostile) suggestions for Safety Updates.

1: Space Station Camping has been a serious issues for players for a long time in VO. The addition of NFZs may seem like a good idea, and it does work to an extent, but it isn't effective due to the way it is set up. Currently, NFZs only extend to a certain distance around a space station. This distance, does not cover the "jump" locations in the sectors where NFZs are present. This, in turn, allows Station campers to continue their atrocious activities. My suggestion to fix this, is to make the NFZ larger, or even span the entire sector containing the space station. This will make Nation Space safer for new players, unexperienced players, peaceful players such as myself, and PvE focused players.

2: Wormhole Campers. I myself have been lucky to only come across players like this a few times, but their presence and actions are still very annoying. It males travel within Nation Space harder than it should be. Take for example how Star Wars has Imperial Blockades to prevent pirates from causing trouble. Loads of space turrets, ships, and even a Station. My suggestion to make Wormhole Travel safer in Nation Space may seem absurd, but, with a bit of creativity, it might just make sense. My suggestion is to surround the "wormhole" locations with turrets, and/or add an NFZ to the sector. Another suggestion is to add "Relay Stations" to the Wormhole sectors, to assist players in their journeys through Nation Space.

I apologize for my previous lack of understanding, and intense hostility. I lack experience. Please read the suggestions I have listed above thoroughly, and consider them for a while before making a response. If you do not agree with the suggestions, please try to add on, and come up with alterations to the original suggestions, before trying to shoot them down. Stay safe everyone!

This is when I say you will have far more safety if you learn pvp & live in areas where shooting freely is allowed.

Station camping is something that's rather rare but when it happens the main problem comes is attacker is usually not interested to care for their standings but the person being attacked does care & it usually happens in Grey stations where increasing the standings back is a pain if you accidentally end up below hate while trying to defend yourself using whatever means you can think of.
Hence why I love corvus stations because I don't need to care about standings. It's the safest place to get a station camper on you because you can shoot first & not care about consequences.

Simple solution is home at a place where you know you can't be station camped. Then roam freely everywhere. If you think you will get camped, you die & end up in your home which attacker doesn't know. Easy escape.

About wh campers you are talking about are probably Itani/serco blockades because I haven't seen a wh camping pirate for a long time now.
Blockades can easily be dealt with in a fast ship. You don't have to fight or anything. For traveling with behemoth or something use a shield turret & you should be good.

But really for properly making station camper leave you alone is to kill them. As much as you may want to avoid pvp, I don't think a little bit of it is a bad thing. Just enough for defense purposes.

A significant amount of WH's do have turrets.

station NFZs ... do not cover the "jump" locations in the sectors where NFZs are present.

Just to note, the suggested jump location, when not using wormholes, is not the ONLY jump-out location. you can go any direction; as long as you are 3km away from high-mass objects, you can jump. Sometimes, the suggested jump location can be farther away than a different vector.

How big is the problem? How many pirates are on at the same? 2?

This is a major problem and I concur with the OP. For station camping adjustments, I think a NFZ "path" to a jump point in every station would address this issue.

To "We All Float:" Not enough turrets
To "Luxen:" Are they indicated? No. NFZs need to be extended.
To "DeathSpores:" It's only not a problem if you like being a quiet and boring person, or if you're the pirate yourself.

To "greenwall:" That is a good idea too.

-1. More resteictions on pirates will only kill the remaining interest in the profession. Id rather keep the good pirates around than have an overly safe galaxy.

Not enough turrets

If someone can get by the turrets that are in place right now, if you increase the turrets 10x, that pilot is still going to get by those turrets.

NFZs need to be extended.

Why? What did you experience that brings you to this conclusion?

To "We All Float:" NFZs need to be extended, or cover the entire sector they're deployed in, to prevent Station Camping in sectors that are literally labeled as "safe" and are within Secure Nation Space. I have has my fair share of being shot at and I dont like it.

Camping in sectors that are literally labeled as "safe" and are within Secure Nation Space.

Which sectors are 'literally labeled as "safe''?

Like Dau L-10 has no label saying that:

Nor does Dau K-10

Training sectors don't even have that label

Those are some of the most secured areas, and there not any safe labels.

NFZs need to be extended, or cover the entire sector they're deployed in,
Why? Sectors pretty much go on for infinity in all directions. Why does infinity need to be covered by a NFZ?

Are you being shot at in places where you have no standing despite being in nation space?

This is a surprising problem affecting mostly new UITs. They start off unprotected at subfaction stations even in Dau.

No they don't. The mission sending them out of the training sector sends the new player to either L-10 or L-11. But if the new player derped and went to a sub faction, each sub faction station(in UIT space) is UIT guarded.

Example:

I'd like to hear a better explanation of what this pilot is experiencing... most my alts hunt pirates (the kennybs) and I never see them in nation space and rarely find any in grey space.

I tend to think this person might be itan or serco and they run into blockades. FYI for author.. the serco and itan wormholes are subject to blockades where the opposing force fights the other nation. They are NPC's not pirates or players.... Also in grey, the dev's created the unrats that are NPC's to keep things interesting for you. They are not players eaither. just pirate bots.
