Add a turbulent vector field to sectors - "Solar Wind"

Flying is awesome. I think the realism is a strength that could yield some low hanging fruit.

Central sectors can have a gentle solar breeze - further out sectors can suffer higher velocities and more turbulent movements.

It would make multi boxing a lot more difficult, and would make combat interesting.

Implementation would involve the turbulent field added to your ship's motion and the paths of weapons.

Would be interesting to play with.

Would work good when we get different types of hull reacting to different types of weapons. As of now we already have players lagging out which makes it a poor experience for both parties. Your suggestion would make it even worse for those players and also the ones with stable internet connection.

I don't really follow your criticism? Why would this cause players to "lag out more"?

Honestly, I've been considering something like this for years, but primarily in the context of Ion Storms, or their likely eventual replacement, fogged "reefs". Some kind of conceptual space-weather, as another issue to overcome, could be pretty interesting.

Because it's a continuous world effect, the exact turbulence could be simulated and synchronized perfectly client-side, and still server-validated, so there would be no network related impact at all.

Hey, I really enjoy flying as is, and I think that it would be fun to have more challenging flying environments.

To flesh out a wish list -

1) sector wide turbulence/ system turbulence
2) individual turbulent fields (hey, stick one in the back of a cap ship engine) or for racetracks/ PvE content
3) ion storm fields!
4) weather report incorporated
5) some scanners can 'see' the field
6) FA mode compensates for the field. So flying without it will give you the ability to fly 'with' the flow, vs letting your ship fight it and spend precious thrust.
7) jump gates/portals leave space ripples, bigger ships = bigger ripples

Obviously just wishes, but ^-^

If you have the ability to sacrifice a dead sector grey space, it would be a fun thing to play with!
