I was thinking that Ship4 would be similar to the centurian in size, cheaper, with 4000 armor, but manuverability equal to the valk.

That's 4 ships so far, gotta think of some more... :)

if you get Sketchup Viewer (http://sketchup.com/viewer) i can actualy upload the ship files themselves and you can make pretty pictures of them that you think show their best angles.

The final design becomes the property of Guild Software? Have they expressed an interest in having the rights to the contest winning design? Have they endorsed this in any way, shape or form?

Hehe, Asp, I was chuckling at that part. I think adding the word "may" would be more appropriate. But even then they'll still need permission from the author to use it. From what I understand an official copyright isn't even needed to protect any form of original work made by the author, whether it be a famous artist or Joe Schmoe. Even though in this case I'm sure the author wouldn't sue Guild Software for using their design. Still, the law is the law.

Okay perhaps a rephrasing of the rules is in order.

The winning design becomes the property of Guild Software's art department. Should the winner REFUSE to allow their work to be placed ingame, then the prize money will go to the next place winner.

This entire contest is to get ship ideas flowing to get more ingame. Making an idea, winning 20+M and then refusing for it to be put ingame is grounds for disqualification.


And Asp, GSW has not expressed DIRECT endorsement of the contest although Waylon himself has personnally expressed his interest in the contest and said "sounds like a pretty cool contest..." and "incidentally, do I get to enter the contest? :)"

So, in response to Asp's questions, they have not expressed a direct interest in holding rights to the design but the intent is to award them the rights to the design then Waylon can decide if he wishes to place it ingame. Remember, the winner is only ENDORSED by the contest and funders, there is no guarantee that Waylon will place the design ingame.

I emailed a submission. I forgot to comment that the background is a NASA stock photo. The rest is mine.

And because FM's design is SO awesome, I want to ask his permission to display it. If not before the contest, I will display it afterwards because I can virtually guarantee his deign would place if directly entered.

Nah, my ubermesh cube is. It's a cube subdivided 1400 times. Just changing into edit mode takes days. :P

Just GIMP. I used to paint a bit, so I still like to play with brushes. Somebody who is good with 3D rendering is going to come along and blow me out of the water though.

Just to reiterate, I have no delusions that my designs will be used or that I will collect the prize - I just wanted to encourage others to enter ideas.

FM is not a dev, though he is affiliated with them he is not actually part of the GS desicion making process. So I think he can enter the contest.

why shouldn't Whistler be able to enter?

Any new designs people? I'm out of ideas.. Sketchup has run out of uselessness, and i'm looking for something better.
