Also, though I don't know the full mechanics behind this, but there IS a way to change your first character's name, because it is automatically generated to speed up getting new pilots into the game.

To change your first new character's name, you have to go through the account verification process, I believe. I think it is found at the top of the options menu if your account isn't verified yet.

If implementing put a cool-down on it, like can't change names more often than once in 30 days.

Another suggestion from the past: Have the name change on the website, automate it so it takes no dev time after it's set up, and charge some real world currency for it so that people with think about it first.

Real world currenncy, cooldown and also a one-week period when the character's old name will be visible as well.
