Allow players to pay money to apply legacy skins
An easy way to add some extra customization to the game with very little dev time would be to allow players to use the older skins/models for the ships that have been around a while (Centaur, Ragnarok, Hornet, etc.).
Benefits: As outlined above, adding visual variety for a very low cost. You could monetize it or just have it cost in-game money (if so, maybe it could be premium exclusive?). I know I'd probably shell out 5-10 bucks to have the old pointy Rag.
Downsides: If you think the models look like crap, then people are flying around looking like crap. That said, you usually see small ships from a distance where it's not too big a deal. And if players want to voluntarily look worse, that's their prerogative - though I happen to think the old skins have a certain charm to them.
The biggest issue, in my eyes, would be the models having hitbox/clipping issues. That could up the workload, nullifying my point about this being relatively easy to implement.
That's all I got, really. I think it'd be cool and not too costly.

Massive +1 for me. I want the old vult! /me throws twenty pounds at Incarnate. Shup up and take my money!
I appreciate the thought, but it probably isn't a good usage of dev time, at present.
We're moving towards broader usage of the "skin" system we added a couple of years ago, which adds significant visual flexibility with a minimum impact on download size. It won't change the actual object geometry.
Making something that changes object geometry (and then potentially collision hull, etc) is.. a separate thing that's more involved, and has more perceptual challenges if there's believed to be an "advantage" incurred ("Pay to Win", blah blah).
People regularly make accusations about "advantages" that are completely imaginary, so I don't really want to give people more to hang conspiracy-thinking onto.
But, we'll keep it in mind as an option down the road.

Understood on how involved the process is and that it won't happen any time soon, if at all.
As my 2 cents, I'd be fine purchasing the skins/models if they came with a caveat that the hitbox would not change with the (iirc slight for every model except the legacy vulture) geometry changes. I can't imagine a player would complain that they were aiming for a specific piece of geometry, given the difficulty of scoring hits/the fact you don't actually click on the enemy ship's model to line up a shot. But if people are complaining about imaginary advantages... I'd hope most people would see any complaints regarding that as pure whinging.

Maybe make the anniversary editions of the vulture the old model? Could even add the old models of the ragnerok and centaur as anniversary editions, or maybe call them classic editions, I dunno, something for a little more variety.

I mean, if the goal is just "more variety", why don't we just add new ships, that don't look like they from an earlier era in time? That seems like a better investment.
