Petition to Change Cargo Dumping

Feb 05, 2004 SirCamps link
Resolved: That any ship exploding should have an undetermined amount of cargo damaged and/or destroyed. The percentage is undetermined. 20-80 or 50-100.

Yea.
-------------------------------
What this is for is an increased and better atmosphere of pirating. It doesn't make sense to fire a bunch of flares at that Marauder and pick up the pieces later. Damage him down low and then give him the option of dumping or dying.

(Please guys, if you want to debate, limit to a couple of sentences/reasons, and post it under a bunch of dashes like this, with your answer above. Also please limit yourself to three extra posts in this thread for reasons/counter-reasons.)

Yup

I agree 100%

Count me in

-------------------------------------------------------------

But, I would like for the percentage to be more like 50% to 100%. There should be a chance for total destruction of the cargo. 20% is kind of low for a ship being blown out of existance.

I completely agree.

---------------------------------------

And I agree with paedric as well. 50-100%.

That way there are a large number of times when you really get nothing at all, or not even enough to replenish your weapon supply. This would keep the pirates to being actual pirates rather than random killers.

Agree totally.

-------------------------------------------------

Heck, even make every ship spawn appropriate cargo on death. I never understood why the 75 bots gave me scrap metal but the 30k Valk blew up clean.

I vote Yes.

---------------------------
50-100% sounds ok, I'd also like to see cargo have a small amount of momentum if it is from a destroyed ship, and not a jettisoned batch. this way it spreads out some and is harder to catch, giving pirates another reason to try to get the target to jetteson instead.

A wise plan.

Yes.

Definitely not. No traders EVER jettison, this is just making life unnecessarily hard for pirates. Bad idea until there is a more significant penalty for dying.

i do when a good pirate is chasing me
but i barely trade anymore

Guys, please follow my rules if you want to post yea or nay. Debate is to be under dashes, with your vote coming first in plain language. Thanks.

Scrap would be interesting, the pirate would have to sift through it to find the goods.

!!!yes!!!

Yes (no big surpice ;)

-------

As for scraps, then yes - the "widgets" used in construction(1) should have a random chance of being recovered as "damaged <component>" worth less. As for the percentile, I'd say it should be more advanced/realistic. The more cargo, the less chance of damaging it all and the more survives. The larger cargo-hold, the less damaged/destroyed. The less volatile components (fuel, rockets, weapons and such), the less...well, you get it :)

"this is just making life unnecessarily hard for pirates"

And god forbid we ever do anything for the other players.. I mean.. the heavens might crumble around us if anything "EVER" inconvienced a pirate...
