you should be able to home in your capship
you should be able to home in your capship
If you die in a ship that you launched from your capship you should return to your capship

Until you only have one ship left in it ?
Seems like an ok idea if the capship is capable of receiving a teleportation.

I'm not a fan of this there would be no downside of leaving your capship to defend it as if you died you'd just end up back in the capship and would instantly be allowed to keep fighting.
Ships are limited. So yes there is a downside. After running out of ships home should be set in home nation.

I'm not sure this should be approached like that. There's no real tradeoff, it's just an advantage.
It could be something more like a distinct choice of whether you home in a station or your capship:
- If you home somewhere other than your capship, you will be guaranteed a ship, but have to fly back to your capship.
- If you home in your capship, and run out of fighter-ships, you will be unable to launch until you (slowly) fly your capship to a station with a capship-capable dock
However, even with that, it definitely changes the balance of capship defense, as you will be able to immediately continue responding to attackers without any delay, up until the point where you no longer have any ships to launch.

there could be a timer so once returned to capship you have to wait 1 5 10 minutes till you can launch again
The only problem I see is if your cap ship is destroyed. In that case your home station should be set to your most recent home station, wherever that may be.

I believe that case is already handled, although it may not be your "most recent", it may be the nearest station where you have factionally-allowed docking privileges.

Really? Where it escalates per-death or something? I mean, I would think that 10 minutes would kind of obviate the point of "homing" in the capship at all..

No because you could still attack/defend/evade in your capship without having to fly back to it. I still think this would be too unbalanced.

Yeah, true; even without remaining ships, it would definitely change the capship defense balance.

I think the respawn device should either take up cargo space, or take up the LP. Or both. It should definitely have a huge mass. And should only be equipped to tridents or larger.
And once the pilot is out of ships, the rehomed station should be a random one anywhere the pilot is dislike or better.

Looks like a lot of complexity is being added for trying to solve something that is not a big setback.
You can always home in each sector you're flying through to return quickly if you die.
And you can stash ships and setup on your way.

It seems more consistent with the game's functionality to me personally.
alternatively an option checkbox to change your home station automatically to the nearest station with appropriate standing when traveling... or make it a capship option specifically only.. but that is a different suggestion really.

Having it be an equippable addon, with a substantial tradeoff, also seems reasonable to me. You're basically adding "station" functionality to a capship. I can see future specialty situations where this would be extremely valuable, and potentially worth the tradeoff.. where in a lot of "common" cases it might not be.

i think (not reading much of the chat) think homing in the capship would be great, even with no ships in the hanger means u get stuck and have to made it to a cap station (which could be far away). although that said it would be neat if u could edit loadouts of ships docked (only owner) from the cargobay. eg add a neut to the rag. rag in hanger and neut in dent cargo bay. Also if capship dies it could send u to like odia m14, so u also get added risk of unrats/pirates if u die.
small tradeoffs would be only a dent has the ability due to its size (maybe a modification bay), and also keeps players wanting to earn a dent instead of people going a goli is enough.
all are ideas so feel free to edit or change how it could work, and maybe say why. instead of just saying +1 or -1.

to equip a ship with something else should have a timer attached to it. But, I like that idea too.
