The last few days I've been playing, it's just getting worse and worse. Fights, name calling, abuse, general bitching, you name it. General chat has to go. I've had to ignore more than 30 people today, because of spamming, general abuse, bla bla bla.

I'm sick of it, is anyone else in favor of getting rid of game-wide chat?

(Changed) Yeah i agree. But like Archon says (below)we need groups where people can join without invite. Maybe some could have different topics (not like people would stick to them)like, "Trading", "newbies", "Pirates", "General chat" and of course "COOL DOWN GROUP" (people who have been banned can join etc).

Yeah, sign me up. Group chat, team chat, sector chat and private messages can easily replace it. That said, a second option would need to be added to groups, that being allowed to join without being invited. Also, groups must be able to consist of more than eight people at once.

I agree, I was on and know what alienb was talking about. It was quiet for four hours then one blue got on and it was one huge name-calling argument.

What? No, this games hasn't reached the size where you dont need a sector-wide chat. Making it so you have to be in a station would make sense, but abolishing it completely serves no purpose, imo.

I'd ask that you spend more time playing than I know you do. The fact that a single person can create and delete names at their leisure is bad, and you can pretty much get rid of the /ignore function by making another name...so.....yea, it is.

Then make it so when you ignore one name, it mutes all names in that account.

There may be a problem, but I fail to see how getting rid of general chat is the solution. Trolls are trolls, you get rid of chat, they have won.

Aye. Let's drop general chat ASAP. Make chat channels accessible in stations someday, but right now, general, all-out chat has outlived its usefulness.

No way, poor solution IMHO, make it a channel you have to join but take it away and the game will be boring, boring, boring, and the griefing will increase 10 fold. I play at night (US time) now and then and don't even see anyone in the same sector for hours. I would bassically just stop playing under these circumstances as I have plenty of other 'single' player games that I like. And I expect that a chat abuser would /msg "foobar" spam or do it in the sector chat or whatever anyway.

Hell no! Unless you want a community even more disjointed than it already it. Half the reason people troll is because other people feed them. Just leave them alone and it'll be fine. If you don't like the general chat just go into multilog and make a point not to check it. I don't see why the whole community has to lose something valuable just because a handful of people are being assholes.

I'm also all for having a 'bar' in the station that provides global chat. I'm sure we could think up some justification as far as story line is concerned. That way, when things get dull, you can still talk with people across the universe on other teams.

People, don't forget, we'd still have team chat. So, essentially, it would eliminate players of different teams talking across different sectors. This could be justified by saying that the only global com channels are maintained by each of the competing governments.
