I had this idea that the hulks are and not being used. Why not just scrap the ship for parts. The new feature would allow a player to break down the large hulks in the system's wormhole. It would be a large addon that would break the small broken parts for scrap metal or the components that survived the ship's destruction. The best ship would be the behemoth ships like the miners mk1 and mk2.
