making the fletchette more usefull?
Right now, a fletchette cannon does 250 damage, and it has pretty bad aim...
The gauss takes of 1200 damage, and it has awesome aim...
these are both (s) port weapons, I think the fletchette should equal to the gauss in some way.
Maybe give the fletchette a tiny auto-aim like half the gauss, and up the damage to 350, or at least make it a bit stronger, because triple gauss is 6800 or something damage per second, and this damage rate CAN be achieved easily. The fletchette statistacilly would have alot more damage per second, but the spread makes it only hit every so often so it is actually lower...
I might just be talking gibberish, but I thought I'd try and explain myself (I'm bad at doing that)
Well, the regular gatling (L port) is what youre suggesting the flechette is modded to. This has been reejected in the past, and resulted in the creation of the flechette in the first place.
I've never seen anyone use the regular gatlin in combat. They either use the adv gat if they can afford it, or use rockets/plasma cannon if they can't.
The flec. needs a slight damage boost and an increase in the rounds per second. I'd say it should work more like a shotgun. The Geminis prove that the engine supports firing multiple projectiles at once. Not sure if it can be applied to energy weapons, but it shouldn't be difficult. So maybe somewhere between 4-8 flechette rounds per shot and a rate of fire a little slower than a tach.
Or we could just make it fire 2-3 rounds per shot and leave the R.O.F. the same.
In either of those doesn't help enough I say up the damage to 300 or more as needed.

I thought we determined it would bog way down to do the multiple shot htingy - I still keep saying that that s NOT a flechette - it never splinters.
I basically agree with Magus. It needs to shoot about twice as many rounds per second, preferably in two round bursts. A 10m/s speed increase isn't a bad idea either.
Giving the flechette autoaim would defeat its purpose.
Making the flechette too good would be bad. It's supposed to be a small slot gatling.
Alot of the problem is that other than the gauss, none of the direct fire weapons are good enough. The tachyon needs a speed boost and should be in my opinion the definative anti-fighter weapon. The graviton and the phased blaster need cycling boosts. The ion cannon and the regular gatling need to use less energy. The plasma cannon needs a damage boost. The railgun needs a slight damage boost and to use less energy.
The guass is the one exception, and could probably use a slight decrease in its autoaim (maybe 5 degrees of arc). It's dumb good now.

lol, I like ur ideas better than mine...
Give it a 5-10 m prox radius.
Umm... I find that giving energy weapons explosions is a bad habit to get into...
Ooh, ooh. Exploding Gauss. I want exploding Gauss!
A prox radius might at least sort of fulfill the name... after all, when I saw flechette I thought splintering area round not popcorn gun.
rouge: Maybe give it like 200 rounds of ammo then. It sure doesn't seem like an energy weapon.

This weapon is in direct response to my "small slot gatling" petition. That's what the devs say, anyhow. And a gatling does not have explosive area rounds. Or, at least, not to my knowledge. Bad name choice maybe?
