capship built-in beam..

Make it so that when capships mine, they dont require a beam equipped, or perhaps even have it fire additional beams when the large ports are beam equipped. You cannot currently mine without a beam attached even though it doesn't get used.

It's evident the capship is firing its own built-in beam already, noting the color of the beam is blue while a green beam (hd) is attached and that one can even fire both beams simultaniously in the current state of the game though im sure thats a bug.. I can create a separate thread regarding capitol mining bugs.

And a question of interest, it would seem the blue beam is as effective as an HD, is that the case or is that inherititing the properties of the equipped beam?

I think capital ships should have a LOT of built in addons, not just mining beams (and radars). Built-in addons are rare, and have been fairly specific to the role of the ship. Capital ships have a variety of roles, so building in a mining beam seems unlikely. I think there should simply be capital mining beams...

thats kinda what im saying though.. it already has a built-in beam, its just not functioning properly.

I think some while back someone suggested mining beam turrets. Would be cool to watch at least.

There should be 2-3 of them per capship
And built in scanners would be useful too

Although, I'd be for this if it were something you had a decision on in the beginning. Like a mining variant; smuggler variant; combat variant; etc with each of these sacrificing abilities over the other.

i.e. a mining variant should have the built in mining equipment but lose a couple of turrets.

The cost and time of building a capital ship and the necessity of weapons in the ports warrants a built in beam and scanner of some capacity.

++1 the idea of having multiple classes for capital ships is clearly the ultimate solution and it is good enough a suggestion that it is probably already in the long term development plans. If not.. incarnate is missing a good opportunity to add depth without a lot of work in new 3d models and such.
