Captcha early warning.

Dec 31, 2020 look... no hands link
This suggestion is based on my assumption that Incarnate does not intend for captchas to be any more annoying to the players that need be.

Recently in this thread https://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/2/36903 I made the same suggestion, but I figured I'd post it here since this is the suggestions forum.

I am suggesting there be some kind of 10 minute warning before captchas come up, along with a way to manually trigger it before normal, within that 10 minute window.

The reason being I've heard a few players complaining about them coming up in combat, which I understand to be kinda a death sentence. I am estimating that 10 minutes is enough warning to disengage, or finish the fight.

Having the ability to trigger it 'right now' sounds useful if you are just about to enter combat, or a race tube, or whatever and would rather deal with it before hand.

My hope is that this would reduce the nuisance level of captchas without nullifying their utility.

You basically have to play for an insane amount of time to even run the risk of captchas at all.

If people just log off when they aren't actually playing, I don't think it's a problem.

The people who have been complaining lately are basically doing something wrong, whether that's borderline exploitative activity, or in the case of Faille's original "bug", leaving their client logged in all the time.

Just.. don't do that. Then there aren't new "features" needed.

a free account can see a captcha about five hours into play, a lite account generally about twelve hours.

the only captcha related thing that might require a tweak is that captchas can be submitted with no text at all causing a fail. a null submission could re-request the captcha input rather than failing.

edit: also, cancel should not be an option if it is, i cant remember.

I don't have a problem with sending a second captcha, once, if we receive a null response (and disconnect / fail on a second null response).

But, if there are any characters in the response, we should probably fail it.

I don't remember what the UX is for the captcha system either, but if there's a cancel that would be kind of silly.

yea i think i failed with a cancel or an esc, back in 2018.. i also failed a null.. im extra careful since my whole 'bot' experience but, things happen. a single mistake catch wouldnt be terrible. ^_^

edit: just got one, definitely no cancel button. lmao
