Event Sector

Had the idea of making one of the un-navigable sectors in Helios, say Helios J-7, into an event sector. Dev/guide assistance would be needed since you cannot navigate to it by regular means. Having this sector would allow certain types of events to be held away from potential disruptors quite easily, Dev/guides could jump event participants into this event sector while the event was going on.

Have it be just like Sedina H-9 used to be with the stadium vibe. That sector was extremely fun to fight battles in.

Just something that's kinda been on my mind and figured I'd throw the idea out there.

I think the sector should fit (somehow) into the lore of VO. I’m thinking that is a corvus controlled sector hidden away from most pilots. Used for sport combat for the entertainment of the patrons of corvus’s various bars (and sportsbooks).

To access it, participants would need to be in a mission (similar to the CSR mission). The mission would be for the specific event.

The sector could be booked via the event submission form on the VO website. The mission would become available 60 minutes prior to the event time. In the event submission form, things like ship limitations could be implemented.

Initially, to get the ball rolling, guides could just warp event participants to the sector. But eventually, there could be a special Corvus capital ship that participants could dock with, which would take participants to the hidden sector.

In the event sector, there would be a station far from the event area where participants could dock, home, etc. In case of various rounds, this would mean that there would be less traveling for event participeant.

About 3k from the station, would be a set up like the old Sed H9.

Upon completion of the event, docking access at the station would be revoked (maybe with a count down, so people could collect their cargo).

If the idea of using a hidden/unreachable sector is less than ideal. Then my other idea is use the old Sedina H9 setup but place training sector turrets in the sector as well. When an event is taking place, anyone who is not registered as a participant in the correct ships (or in an unarmed ship) would be instant killed. The turrets would warp away after the event is finished.

Either way having a dedicated sector for player run events with some protection from griefers would be (in my opinion) a net positive for the game. It is kind of unfun when someone is hosting a planned bus war, and someone else shows up in a X-1/prom/etc to get crazy easy pks. Running an event is already a huge time sink for the volunteer host. Something like this might make running an event a little more appealing to a wider range of players.

Huge +1 from me

devs / guides can teleport themselves and others into the un-navigable sectors. The downside is that these sectors have a large sun in the skybox, which tends to make video streaming difficult.

There are no roids or stations to use as navigation aids, so it can be hard to group up or to re-enter a fray that has migrated away from the jump in point.

One quick fix is for the dev/ guide to bring a dockable cap ship there as a rallying point and for repairs.

Long term it would be nice to have an un-navigable sector with rocks and a base, and another with just rocks - and a less intrusive light source.

Maybe just add a new system that is completely un-navigable, both from without and within the system. Call it The Arena or whatever. Then we can have arena sectors with the h9 ring, the giant roid pile from bractus p1, the sedina race tubes, hulk sectors, hive bots for PVE events and, all kinds of other stuff I haven't thought of yet. There would be 256 sectors to choose from.

Then Jak's idea of capship ferry, or even a user triggerable dev-warp in the mission UI 'Click the box to enter the arena'

As for leaving the arena, maybe another UI box that would warp you back where you took the mission from.
