Extend hulk debris to every ship

Dec 19, 2020 DeathSpores link
When destroying any ship (fighters, assault, trade ships) replace it by the hulk debris for 24 hrs.
Why? it would improve ambiance of the game, like making greyspace looking more dangerous with various wreckage due to unrats, or players.
Possible additions
1) add the name of the previous pilot to the wreckage when targeting the debris "wreckage of *Tanato Wisconia"
2) mining beam could extract the scrap metal from the debris until the limit is reached and the debris explodes
3) if not mined explosion of the debris releases the scrap metal for 15 mn as cargo drop.

I don't think they ever had textures for those, and it'd take time to make one for each ship. They could all have the same looking debris.

I think this is an excellent idea.

Imagine a noob going to Latos for the first time.

He jumps across the WH from Azek. Immediately he sees the wreckage of dozens or hundreds of others whose journey has ended here. Flying past the wreckage of once mighty capitol warships, cargo freighters, and civilian transports in his newly purchased atlas, he realizes how small and vulnerable he is in this wild, lawless area of the universe where anything goes and commerce is often carried out at gunpoint. He knows that he lingers here at his peril. Pirates, sociopaths, and even fellow traders may kill him for his meager wares without a second thought.

If you just mean the free-floating debris, then yes, that is the intention. But I'm scaling it up slowly to make sure there aren't secondary problems or graphics scalability issues. All the debris is physically interactive, for instance.

But, the overall intent here has been the goal for a long time, including the potential naming of "remains" and the possible extraction of resources and so on. But, it'll be a bit of a process. Getting there :).
