speciality mining beams
speciality mining beams are broken they allways have been but untill now I've never tested them
I mined exactly the same 49.4% pentric roid in a BHM2 for 99 units of ore
with 3 HD beams I got 49 units of pent as expected
with 3 pent beams (200%) bonus I got 57 pent and the roid got hotter
as it stands speciality beams are useless
could they be fixed or repurposed to something usefull like roid cooling beams (anti boil beams)

Just to be clear a cooling beam would not get you any ore it would just lower the temperature of the roid
In my limited mining experience, specialty mining beams are good for pulling ore out of low percentage roids. So helio beam for a 20% helio beam. Out of a 50% roid, HD are the way to go.
i use specialty beams all the time and find them to be more efficient than HD beams, especially when used on _above-average_ roids. i.e.: i'll use iophase beams when mining lanth-- makes a 60-70% roid mine like it a 100% roid.
the speciality beams are for when you dont have much yield. Around 30-35%your better off with a HD
