point- massively buff the grid used up so people don't see it as the default capship gun and so the devs properly consider it

I think a mining turret would be better. Same 25 grid, but a turret. I think it would be a reasonable thing to be able to do with a ship the size of a trident.

I don't know what heat and rate would be appropriate for it.

I would love to have mining turrets but I think they would be exploitable
as you can put bots in turrets

Oh I meant on a turret in that you could hop in the turret, fire, and leave the turret and it'd keep mining on it's own. No need to exploit it with bots.

The basic, non-turret version of this is going out tonight (with a 150m Range), as the "Hive Queen Mining Beam", an uncommon drop from Queens.

It's a 1 in 10 drop chance. But that doesn't guarantee you will be lucky.

It is 1 in 10 chance every time. If you kill ten, that does not mean you will get a drop. It just mean you had 10 attempts at each attempt had a 1 in 10 chance of dropping.

The first one dropped an hour after release. It works fine.
