Mine-laying ship
tri-prox valk bleh thats not as potent as you think since mines DO have an arming delay. i'll take 3 nonmoving timed delay arming mines over a trio of flares any day. (not that flares are really all that much more effective since they cut the refire rate)
Right now mine-laying is not a valid tactic, aside from personal defense or griefing. Since the devs have noted on the In Progress page that we will very soon have physical force emanating from explosions, I would like to see a dedicated mine-laying ship. If we get a mix up of models, I would suggest using the Marauder, it just *looks* like a mine-laying ship.

This ship would be approximately 45% more than the previous one.
* = The mines would be fired to the side of the vehicle, and would armed as long as no station is within 500 meters, as per InterGalactic Law Provision § 5124 that states that no explosive ordinance may be fired, detonated, or placed within 500m of a station. The mines would fire (in tandem) approximately 60m to the side of the vehicle, placing two mines 120m apart. Only the most careful, cautious, and slow pilots could get through a minefield.
The goal would be to mine wormholes or around a station. If you flag is capped, dispatch four of these ships and they will have a wormhole mined pretty well. Pirates could even throw up a minefield between wormholes, making sure traders slow down.

not a bad idea, I'm not sure i like a ship with only one job tho. Perhaps make a new hull type thats slightly larger than our ships are now (say something along lines of the corvettes in Homeworld) and give them VERY Large Ports with the minefield dispersal units as one of the weapons availible for that port size. (or for now the only weapon availible for that port size, and we can add other weapons later)
Make 'task' ships, they only get a special weapon slot. This weapon slot could have anything equipped from mines to fighter drones.
This has come up before. I'm guessing the devs are still against it.
We don't need a 'tasked' ship. We just need a ship configured to doing the job.
Personally, I've always thought prox mines were unoffensive enough that they could be reduced to a small slot weapon. Then you could have (if you like) a 'prox mine rack' as a large slot weapon with more mines available than the small slot version.

Actually, I think a minelayer would be kinda cool. But hey, what do I know?
i like the mine layer idea also..
i think the best would be to make diffrent types of Large slot mine laying devices...
i also agree that the should be shot from the sides as well as the back...
so maybe a special ship is in order to shot mines in that direction.
perhaps maybe a friendly fire device that we can install in our ships to avoid hitting mines in our team sectors. much like the things we put into our real life fighters so they will not shoot missles at each other....
or make another mine class for the teams gold mines red mines blue mines...
