Yarr, you honorless scum.
Try to flare my maud-of-war and I'll jettison my sunflares right in your face. So there.

*bump* Yeah, the problem with the trader jettisoning his/her cargo is that when the pirate (most likely in a valk) heads back to the station with 4 cargo, the trader then hurridly grabs the cargo and makes a run for it. Or, some wait until the pirate is in the cargo then tries to rocket ram them while they're distracted by the cargo.

Whats wrong with him trying to get back what the pirate can't carry?
If I'm hauling 8 units of Whatnut, and the pri*k can only carry 4 units back to the station, shame on him - I'm sure as he*k going to scurry off with the rest of it!

-Pirate in a maud then.

There's nothing wrong with trying Gthang, but if I were to catch you doing it I'd just frag you then. My point was, if you just kill the trader in the first place, you don't have to worry about jettison... which isn't very nice but it's kind of an every man for himself "test" at the moment.

I just had a guy jettison (I was SF1), I needed his cargo, it was a maud, and I had 5200 credits. I damaged him down to under 20%, and he made it to the 11 wormhole. I warped after him..... TO FIND HE HAD LOGGED OFF!!

*grumbles*

I repeat..... disable /logoff while invincible (undocking, loading sectors, sector animations, and invulnerability times).

@DR/Outrider:
Sure, thats your perogative - I wouldn't, but then I'm a nice guy :)

But hey, lets suggest that cargo gets damaged during combat and more so by explosions (I mean, another ship exploding can damage me if I'm too close, me exploding ought to tear my cargo to shreds!) This way people can still threaten (pirate-style!), or simply attack/frag/"grief" (Some people are language-deficient!) and risk only ending up with expenses to both parties.

I say disable countdown timer during warp, and make the ship stay 10 seconds if the connection drops, connection drop would also make the ship complete the warp(So pulling the plug doesn't work)

@Pirogoeth2
Wow, I'm glad I don't live at home with parents suddenly pulling the plug mid-game/flight/dogfight!!

@DR
Precisely!

Logging off mid-warp is no different than running to the station in your valk and repairing. You have to get to the warp first and if the trader makes it then they deserve to log off and keep their EARNED money.

Besides I've seen most of the complainers use /explode to avoid being killed.

heh i remember when i was a trader on zeal, i would always do that if a pirate was on me. Now that im a pirate all these traders be doin that to me now heh.

GThang, if you're parents are pulling the plug on your game, you shouldn't be playing anyway.

Many of the ideas above are great ideas. Myself, I'd vote for removing the /logoff while invincible, and so I will make a petition to.

And if /logoff is removed, how will we deal with having to legitemately use it in warp when the game hangs on the loading screen. Devs and guides are few and far between.

@Paedric:
Hopefully there is a game-thread testing things like connection, gfx and the overall "aliveness" of the game - a socalled hang-timer-check, which can take appropiate steps to handle such situations (albeit this might not work on Windows, given its scheduler - nut sure though). Is a common thing in all real-time systems :)

I am a traveler, trader and defender. I rarely go looking for trouble but sometimes it finds me.

I wasn't going to post the last time this came up but now I am...anyone who has been around long enough to make it out of n00bhood should have noticed when traveling with companions that when you hit a wormhole at different angles, speeds or edge/middle, the parties seperate. I am not talking about different loading times based on your connection either. Noticing this early on, I began to play around with wormholes and have discovered how to appear ahead of a companion who entered the wh before me and I have also discovered how to appear behind a persuer who entered the wh after me.

I will not give away how I do this but I mention it now to show that there are other ways to throw off a pitate or griefer.

Devs, please take away the ability to log in warp. If Johnny has to eat supper or do his homework, he can get his butt to a station. If warp hangs, there's control+alt+delete or command+q.

Gah! This happened to me the other day again. Was chasing a trader and they logged off during warp. It's clearly an exploit that's no better than the insta-logoff that occured in 3.0.x. May I suggest that logging off during wormhole travel should instantly destroy your vessel and cause you to return the last saved station?

Think of it as having to turn your engines off while traveling through a wormhole (which requires all your energy to get through safely). As you can imagine the player, if they were to "logoff" during warp, would die by being stuck in the wormhole dimension forever. I don't know, seems to make sense to me.

Either the counter should stop counting down, reset completely, or count down like normal but have the player's ship be destroyed when they log back on. There are a number of ways to make it fit with the storyline. Either way it's something that should probably be stopped.

Yes, lets punish people when they encounter a bug while loading a sector and end up with a frozen screen.

Being able to recover from bugs supercedes your getting the kill.

Listen, if yall get to do whatever you want while pirating, not listening to us or regarding any sort of rules, it's only fair that we can log off in flight. After all, what makes you think you can stop us any more than we can stop you from griefing.
