Shield turrets and mines

Shield turrets do damage, yes? On the specs it says that a shield turret projectile does 1 damage. A mine pops when it takes damage. So therefore, shouldn't shield turrets be able to pop mines just like any other turret? Unfortunately a shield turret can't pop mines. If the shield turret does no damage (as it seems since it can't pop mines!), then shouldn't we be able to use it in NFZ without triggering the SF? PCB'ing doesn't trigger SF. So why should shield turrets?

I'd have to look into it to answer "why" for sure. I mean, there could even be a bug.

But, also understand that there is more than one type of "damage". They all look the same to the player, you see the red flash and an impact on your ship's health, but energy-weapons are different from explosions, which are also different from physical-impacts.

There's a good chance that mines do not detonate from physical-impact damage, explicitly because when we first added them, there were problems with ships occasionally colliding with the mines they had just laid, or people backing into them, etc. I don't honestly remember the current state, but it's possible.

I also don't know if the description of a shield turret is accurate at all. The "1 damage" thing may be wrong, they may simply do physical-impact damage, rather than have a specific amount "applied" (energy-style).

That's all a bunch of off-the-cuff information, from memory, rather than a specific answer; but it's what I can offer right now..

So I guess shield turrets causing sf to show up would be a bug? If it is a bug and happens to be fixed, mind making it so that shooting a shield turret at someone wont allow them to attack without faction repercussion? Sometimes I see a person afk mining and I'd love to use a shield turret to knock them out of range of the roid...

Umm. No, SF showing up is not necessarily a bug? You are attacking someone, after all.

PCBing probably doesn't trigger the NFZ simply because it works very differently and didn't have that feature added. You could say the "bug" is that PCBs don't trigger the SF in a NFZ. Not that shield turrets do.

I'm not sure why we should make it easier for you to push away AFK miners? How does that enhance the game? You can probably already "ram" them away, if you really want to.

I'm doing my best to answer a lot of generalized questions here; but if there's a desire to make an actual "Suggestion", you'll need to make a create a more robust case for what you're suggesting we improve.

Just get on an alt and kill afk miner.
