Galactic Traveler
First, Thanks for all the new content and Badges. I know your job is hard, especially listening to all our complaints.
I know you said that all badges would not be based on anything previously done due to lack of easily acessable records, but this Badge should be issued to any that have the Master Prospector Badge already. We have visited every system, proven by we have done the prospecting missions in that System.

Is retroactive application really that important?
I guess I'm more concerned about setting a problematic standard, for the future. Retroactively applying the badge now, for those users, takes X time. Then, next time we add another badge, people come up with a more elaborate way to detect retroactivity, which requires unpacking encoded character data, and becomes 2*X.. or X^2, or whatever. Then X^3, and so on.
Thus it continues, and every time we add badges, there becomes some chorus of voices demanding we do elaborate retroactive application. Even if we say "no", because it gets too complicated, then we'll still have done a time-consuming dive on data-types to try and figure that out.
We didn't really add any badges for like nine years. I thought this recent change might be the beginning of a new renaissance of adding badge content. But, if they become a big burden for us, and each reveal has to have some involved discussion about viability of retroactive application, then that may cause me to rethink the "dev-time to game value ratio" of adding these things at all.
I mean, the process of getting badges is supposed to be this enjoyable gameplay goal. Is it so bad to fly around the universe again?

NO Problems with that.
It takes 20-30 minutes to get this badge. No reason to retroactively apply it.
That's good to hear. I've probably had half a dozen tickets, plus a Bugs thread, from people asking why they didn't get a better badge, or why something wasn't retroactive, or whatever. I'm glad people like the badges and all, but it's been a sizeable time-sink since we released them.
I'd rather just.. we'll ship what we can ship, at the time when we ship it.. and if it's not retroactive, then c'est la vie. Then at least I have a "blanket" universal policy-answer that I can post along with the badge notices.

Lemme throw in my two cents in as well - its new content. Its a goal to reach for. If you should have already had that goal reached, then it should be quite trivial to do it again, yeah? I approve of no retroactivity towards ANY future goals.
+1 New content, new challenges! +1 No retroactivity.
